anteayaZara: not sure if you saw this, I created this while you were on holiday last week: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/325474/16:00
anteayawe haven't had a guide on how to use storyboard from a user's perspective16:01
anteayaso this is my first bit in that direction16:01
Zaraokay, I think the best means of reviewing it may be to point people at that during the bugsquash and see what happens16:18
anteayaoh16:18
anteayaI had sort of hoped we could merge that and I could work on subsequent patches extending it16:19
anteayaactually if it was published folks could offer patches to it if it needed changing16:19
anteayaduring the bug sprint16:19
*** jtomasek has quit IRC16:20
Zaraso generally, I feel like if you need a guide to the ui for something like a task-tracker, the ui is a real problem, and this will get out of date quickly, and also that people understand things using different language, so people will ask the same questions they ask without it on irc; it just adds a component we have to keep updated. but I don't want to -1 on theoretical grounds so I'd like some evidence16:20
Zara to make up my mind on it.16:20
anteayaZara: oh so you are arguing for not having it16:22
anteayaokay that is fair16:22
anteayamy perspective is that we have to accomodate users like the product working group16:22
anteayawhich I find need more guidance than the majority of our other developers16:23
anteayaand I find are not comfortable asking a question without a manual16:23
anteayanow the manual itself is not the preclusion to asking the question16:23
anteayafor some the existance of the manual is the permission to ask the question16:23
anteayanot my personal way of thinking but amongst some I do notice it as a trend16:24
anteayahowever if you were prefer not to have the guide, that is fine, if you could add a comment to the patch, that would be helpful16:24
anteayawhich is why I didn't want to continue working on it until we had agreement on if it should exist in the first place16:25
Zarawell, I'm leaning against, but I'd rather see if others find it useful and base my response on that, so that's why I'm at a bit of a distance from it for now.16:26
anteayaokay fair enough16:27
Zarayeah, I saw it and thought it wasn't the right time for me to comment on it, then forgot to say that, sorry.16:28
anteayathat is okay16:30
anteayathanks for sharing your thoughts16:30
anteayaand in principle I agree with you16:30
anteayawhich is why we have gotten as far as well have without needing it16:30
Zaranp. I think whether it's merged in something like it's current form or not, it could be handy as a list of things for the betherly's interactive tutorial-in-progress to cover, though I'd rather not mention that on gerrit if she's snowed under with other things, as it'll draw attention and generally be stressful.16:30
persiaI'm in a similar position.  I think it is worth having some conceptual documentation, because not everyone has signed on to the behavioural model or understands multidimentional prioritisation, but that's very different from the detail documentation.16:30
persiaNeeds time though.16:30
openstackgerritAdam Coldrick proposed openstack-infra/storyboard-webclient: WIP: Rework timeline events into a timeline  https://review.openstack.org/32723116:30
SotKanteaya: when that shows up on docs-draft it should help explain what I mean16:31
anteayapersia: good point16:31
anteayaSotK: thank you16:31
SotK(ignore the weird comment CSS)16:31
anteayathank you, I will endeavour to do so16:31
persiaanteaya: No rush: as I said before (was it really last week), I'm happy to help with that when I have time, and I'm not sure I want to push Storyboard-as-a-BDD-tool if that might confuse people migrating from LP.16:33
Zarapersia: yeah, I do find in practice that more people struggle with the 'stories are linked to projects via tasks' vs 'tasks are in stories are in projects' thing, than the 'where to find things' thing.16:33
anteayaI was mostly offering this patch as the foundation from where to begin16:34
persiaZara: Yeah, and without verification criteria being attached to stories, explaining why remains tricky.16:34
anteayacreating definitions to be used later sort of thing16:34
persia(not that I'm suggesting adding verification criteria be considered a near-term feature)16:34
anteayaI have to check my lunch16:35
Zaraanteaya: yeah, I think it's good to talk about it; this is the tutorial I referred to: https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/story/200051416:35

anteayain this view, I am really enjoying that the number of patches in status "review" is at the left hand side of the row, thank you https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/dashboard/stories17:14
anteayaI do have a question, has there ever been any discussion on trying to squeeze in the name of the repo the story is filed against in that view?17:15
persiaNo, but that is a really good idea.  Also group-by on repo.17:16
* persia has mostly just worked on projects where one rarely touches the same repo more than a couple times a year or one is focused on one or two repos, but thinks that feature is very useful for anything in-between those extremes.17:17
anteayait isn't a must have17:18
anteayajust a thought that passed through my head17:18
anteayaI'll create a story for it17:19
anteayahttps://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/story/200063317:23
anteayalow priority17:23
anteayaif one of the stories created by me is merged, does that change the status to something other than Active thereby preventing it from showing up in my column?17:28
persiaYes, if all the tasks in a story are merged, the story is considered not important enough to be in the default filter (because it is done, so concern yourself with stuff to be done)17:30
persiaIn the absence of verification criteria, the assumption is that once marked "merged", it doesn't need to be considered.  With verification criteria, we can identify when a story is no longer implemented (regressions), and get it back, but that's a longer-term thing (if nothing else, it makes sense to get zuulv3 clean before designing it)17:31
anteayaoh sure17:32
anteayaI just wanted to know what the behaviour was17:32
anteayathank you17:32
betherlythanks Zara :) but ye please add suggestions to what people want from and in this tutorial18:11

anteayahow come I don't see betherly's tutorial story in this view? https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/project/45719:51
anteayaah pagination19:51
betherlyanteaya: its WIP still :)19:52
SotKhmm, I'm starting to wonder if the internet these days has ingrained an expectation of no pagination to users19:52
anteayabetherly: sure but it should still show up in that view, and does when I set pagination to 100 per page19:53
anteayaI'm all for no pagination19:53
anteayaI can scroll19:53
anteayaand mostly I control-F19:53
SotKthe problem is that getting 6000 stories (or however many there are, I can't remember, but 6000 doesn't seem like an excessive number of active stories for all of openstack at all) takes a loooong time without paging19:55
anteayaagreed19:56
anteayacan we move the default pagination to something between 10 and 6000?19:56
SotKyeah, I think it should default to 100 tbh19:56
anteayaI have no argument that 6000 results would take a while to load19:56
anteayaI'm in support of a 100 value default19:57
anteayaand having no pagination in settings somewhere as an option19:57
anteayathen if you get the 6000 results it is because you choose them19:57
SotKThere is a patch out which does that, which needs reworking19:58
anteayaohhh may I see?19:58
SotKI was concerned about it potentially being used to spam requests for all stories to slow down the server maliciously, but I've realised just now that that can be done already anyway19:58
SotKhttps://review.openstack.org/#/c/235993/19:59
SotKdoesn't have a draft build because of the merge conflict I guess19:59
anteayait is a reasonable concern20:00
anteayabut one we are less likely to encounter than many many users not finding items that exist20:00
