MohaI'm going to learn a CI/CD tools. I was wondering why OpenStack dev teams are interested in Zuul-CI? Is it something modern in comparision with Gitlab-Runner or Jenkins?12:08
NeilHanlonMoha: there are some pretty specific goals that Zuul helps to fulfill. Gitlab-Runner and Jenkins are.. well, they're two different things, but in general, Zuul is probably more powerful than them both18:52
fricklerOpenStack used Hudson then Jenkins originally. fungi has written up the history of it quite nicely https://opensource.com/article/20/2/zuul18:57
NeilHanlonty for that link frickler :) 18:58
fungiit's due for a sequel. that article is a bit of a cliffhanger19:11
fungi"what's next in store for our intrepid ci/cd heroes? will they eliminate those final single points of failure? are there still more entrenched software development paradigms they can bust open and turn upside down? tune into our next exciting episode!" (i won't spoil the plot twists for you)19:13
fungigitlab recently implemented a partial solution to project gating, which was zuul's killed feature over a decade ago. it's nice to be ahead of the curve on these kinds of innovations, but also reassuring when large companies come around to the realization that the problems you're solving do actually exist19:15
fungier, github i mean. i confuse those since i don't ever use either of them really19:15

fungias a side note, opensource.com has stopped taking submissions some months ago when rh yeeted the budget for that division, so any sequel will probably end up on opensource.net once osi finally gets that up and running. but also you can find a copy on https://zuul-ci.org/blog/ (we used it as the first post when launching that blog, since we needed some content for it)19:39
