poopcat@watersj, how large is the image / how long does it take to upload? Horizon timeout is 30 minutes by default so if it takes longer than that, that could be your problem01:17
watersjpoopcat, its cirros raw, 112mb01:18
poopcatah yea, that shouldn't be a problem01:18
*** gyee has quit IRC01:19
poopcatthe other thought is how large the horizon/glance containers are and if, when you're uploading, they're 100% full at any point01:19
poopcatwhen you upload via horizon, it saves the image to Horizon container  and then uploads to Glance01:20
watersji looked there too, little small but I have 20g free01:20
watersjalso stopped other containers in my multi-node leaving 1 running to keep it simple01:21
poopcatyea, that should suffice.. those are your usual tell-tale signs... I don't have a train environment to replicate so I don't know if this is a bug or a problem with your implementation01:21
watersjpoopcat, only other thing is I'm testing and have multinode setup as VMs on standalone KVM box, with nested vms enabled. Perforamce could be better but need to learn w/what I have01:27
poopcatoof, understood. Yes, performance will be pretty poor in the Openstack VMs (that live on VMs :-P )01:29
watersjare you using stien?01:32
poopcata bunch... mostly liberty-stein01:37
watersji'll revert back to stein, and see01:39
poopcatI'll be honest though -- I only test Horizon if someone says something is wrong with it. Otherwise, I have no reason to check it.01:40

BraceI assume that you can't just do an in place upgrade of ubuntu15:35
openstackgerritDmitriy Rabotyagov (noonedeadpunk) proposed openstack/openstack-ansible-tests master: Use galera server role to install galera client  https://review.opendev.org/72590215:35
Braceyou need to do a clean reinstall of the OS15:36
mgariepyBrace for the controllers, you might want to scale down the number of dhcp agent (if you resolve dns in the vms from the dhcp_agents) and move ports arounds if you don't want the dns resolve to timeout.15:37
mgariepyfor each network that is.15:37
jrosserBrace: in-place upgrades may be possible, but again care is needed15:39
jrossernote that the venvs contain python libs which have bindings against system shared libraries, like libvirt and ceph15:40
*** gyee has joined #openstack-ansible15:40
mgariepyBrace, https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/osa-rocky-bionic-upgrade15:41
mgariepyit doesn't covert everything but it's a start.15:41
Bracemgariepy: thanks for that15:45
mgariepyyou might want to deactivate the router gently on the neutron nodes (before sapping it..)15:47
mgariepyzapping**15:47
mgariepywhen rescheduling 10s or 100s of router it can take  a while for stuff to stabilize. not sure how much router/network you have on your nodes but it can be disruptive to do so.15:49
jrossermgariepy: do you have any tips for if i have a broken network node but the active router is still on the broken node?15:49
jrosseri.e "force node <foo> to be active for all the routers, regardless"15:49
jrosserwe had an nvme disk with a pcie error bad enough to break the host (no ssh, no new processes could start) but otherwise everything that was previously running remained15:50
mgariepyi run my router in not-ha mode15:51
jrosserthat would do it :)15:51
mgariepyi never had a host failure yet.15:51
mgariepyi move router around gently when i need to. but it's really a mess and when there are a lot of movement that need to be done it takes a really long time.15:52
jrosserif it were a physical router i'd go and fiddle the vrrp weight and magic would happen15:52
jrosserbut i couldnt see an equivalent concept for neutron15:52
mgariepythe router in ha are scheduled on all the 3 network node i guess ?15:53
jrosseri have 2 network nodes there, but yes15:53
mgariepynot sure you would be able to edit the router on the broken node.15:54
jrosserperhaps shutting the switchports to the broken node would have made it fail over15:54
mgariepyindeed15:54
mgariepyhow many router ?15:54
jrosseroh a very small number, maybe 5 max15:55
mgariepyha.15:55
mgariepyyep turn the switch port off.15:55
mgariepyhaha15:55
mgariepyonly 5 would not be a big issue.15:56
jrosserit was irritating because all the processes still seemed to be running, but everything was completely hosed for remote management, even the IPMI KVM15:56
jrossernow we do many many SSD firmware upgrades which is not fun15:56
mgariepywith 100s with 3 agents, the network was getting really confused (router with ha-active on all the nodes, and innactive on all the nodes..)15:57
mgariepyfor the controllers it's somewhat easy, no big impact for the clients.15:58

AJaegerdo you want me to send a mass update to just change pygments_style? That works with both old and new theme...16:10

AJaegerjrosser: yes, I'm happy. Let me push first change - review - and then I push the rest...16:12
jrosserAJaeger: part of the issue i guess is we've not quite branched yet - so as hinted at in the patch this morning we currently have master requirements even though we're technically still finishing U16:13

jrosserbut i was a bit unsure if that was supposed to happen or not17:22
noonedeadpunkI was doing like to opposite :P The thing is, that just CONTRIBUTING.rst has been symlinked to the https://review.opendev.org/#/c/727425/2/doc/source/contributor/contributing.rst17:23
noonedeadpunkAnd as new template do not hav heading, sphinx was throwing warning which caused tests to fail17:23
noonedeadpunkSo I either needed to add some different contributing rst or just drop this part of the docs17:24

noonedeadpunkso regarding upgrade jobs I kinda recalled my original idea. So we do have all roles we need with the required versions cloned by zuul. So the only thing we need to do - do not touch them during initial deployment of previous branch and link them before upgrade runs, so that it used them instead of cloning18:24
*** fghaas has quit IRC18:29
jrosserah right so we clone from the repos in the vm image on the N-1 run and checkout the N-1 branch18:35
jrosserthen delete all that and symlink on the upgrade run18:35
jrosserwe shouldn’t go back to cloning from opendev.org18:37

*** cshen has quit IRC19:41
mgariepyho. also if you do have local ephemeral storage 18.04 default formated ephemeral drives are not quite compatible with 16.04 ones, (default ops differs quite a bit) so if you migrate vms around the ephemeral disk might need some more handling.19:42
