@jpew:matrix.orgWhen is the next Zuul release planned (if at all)?14:43
@fungicide:matrix.orgnow that we're caught up with ansible support (which is what was driving the major version bumps and had implied deprecation/warning timeframes), probably not as frequently for the next while. usually zuul releases when there's a good reason to, but we also try to follow esr's advice to "release early, release often"14:54
@fungicide:matrix.orgthere will probably be another release before the end of the year, but i'm not aware of any specific plan in that regard14:55
@fungicide:matrix.orgalso development tends to slow up a bit around this time of year with a lot of people observing holidays and travelling14:56
@jpew:matrix.orgfungi: That's fine; I'd appreciate it if https://review.opendev.org/c/zuul/zuul/+/863068 was in that release (whenever it is) though :)14:56
@jpew:matrix.orgI'm not sure I'm just missing something related to "what's planned to go in a release" or if I'm supposed to keep asking about it here :)14:58
@fungicide:matrix.orgjpew: it's usually just whatever's already merged when we tag a new version. more premeditated planning tends to only happen when there's large and complex feature work, anticipated non-backward compatible changes, or similar major impact to people running the software15:15
@jpew:matrix.orgYa. Most other projects I work on you're just expected to "ping" every week or two to make sure your changes move along. Wasn't sure if that was the case here or not, sound like it is (e.g. there's not some tag or list of changes that I can't see that indicates what's planned to be reviewed for the release).15:17
@jim:acmegating.comjpew: i hesitate to describe the process like that.  two things you can do to help reviewers of your changes are: 1) reply to comments; 2) don't rebase your change unless it's necessary.  keep updates to changes in their own patchsets, and if a rebase is necessary, do that it its own patchset (but don't rebase unless necessary!)15:21
@jpew:matrix.orgcorvus: Ya, makes sense. I use Gerrit my day job, so it's not too foreign to me. Having first-class Gerrit support actually made the the "we should try Zuul" argument a lot easier :)15:23
@jim:acmegating.com(the idea here is that reviewing a delta is much easier than reviewing the whole change again :)15:24
@fungicide:matrix.organd while it's probably preaching to the choir for this channel, remember that zuul rebases your change onto the latest state of the targeted branch, so rebasing is really only needed when there's a merge conflict with your most recent revision or to restack a change onto another change in order to add it as a dependency (though that can also be accomplished somewhat more lazily by amending the commit message to add a depends-on footer)15:24
