@q:fricklercloud.de | there's a bug in the autohold UI it seems. if I first open https://zuul.openstack.org/autohold/0000000074 , then go back to the index and look at e.g. https://zuul.openstack.org/autohold/0000000073 , I'm still being shown the data from 0074 | 05:25 |

@blaisep-sureify:matrix.org | Zuul advocacy question: | 12:02 |
Have the folks looking into kubernetes support considered OpenFaaS?
...As I look through the structure of the example docker-compose, it seems to me that OpenFaaS would handle a lot of the plumbing between the various services.
@fungicide:matrix.org | Blaise Pabon: which plumbing specifically? i'm struggling to figure out how functions-as-a-service addresses connectivity between zuul's microservices (normally they're connected by tcp/ip networking instead) | 13:33 |
@blaisep-sureify:matrix.org | I guess I should have phrased the question differently: | 14:56 |
"has anyone here already tried OpenFaaS?"
...It's a lot more than functions-as-a service.
The current project uses docker-compose to coordinate the services (presumably because it's the low common denominator)
This is really helpful when it comes to things like Ingress, TLS, DNS, persistence, etc.
The TCP/IP part is a very small part of the networking.
So OpenFaaS adds value by making the interfaces more consistent and interoperable. I'm not trying to persuade. I just didn't want to reinvent the wheel.

The quickstart is intentionally simple. It is meant to run on your laptop or your datacenter etc regardless of whether or not you have a kubernetes cluster available. However, people can and do deploy Zuul to production with a variety of tools including kubernetes and openshift. Some use the zuul k8s operator for that and others do not. I am not aware of anyone using openfaas. I don't think we should replace the quickstart with something that assumes you have more than fairly straightforward linux installation
