todinHello, I am trying this tutorial https://zuul-ci.org/docs/zuul/admin/quick-start.html, but with the first review I get this error, "HEAD -> refs/publish/master (prohibited by Gerrit: not permitted: create)" I would guess that the gerrit configuration in the demo is broken. Does anyone know how to fix that?15:58

fungitodin: you need git-review 1.27.0 or later to work with latest releases of gerrit like the quickstart images use16:12
fungigerrit deprecated and eventually removed refs/publish/*16:13
todinfungi: I will try that.16:16
todinThanks16:16
fungilatest git-review is 1.28.0, released in april of this year, just to be clear (1.27.0 is from september of last year)16:18
todinyeah, but it is still not in CentOS 7.616:19
fungimakes sense, centos/rhel tend to not get new packages terribly often16:19
todinyes, but in the quick-start is shows instructions for RedHat/Centos/Fedora16:20
fungisounds like the quickstart should probably recommend running git-review from a virtualenv (that's what i do even though the platform i use provides relatively recent packages of it)16:21
fungiat least until centos 8 is on the scene16:21
fungihttps://wiki.centos.org/About/Building_8 suggests it's getting closer16:23
fungitodin: https://zuul-ci.org/docs/zuul/admin/quick-start.html#start-zuul-containers says to install git-review via pip16:25
fungiis that not what you did16:25
fungi?16:25
fungithat should have resulted in having 1.28.0 installed16:25
fungiit's the only reference i can find in that document about installing git-review16:26
todinyes, but it didn't work let me check it again16:26
fungiahh, if earlier steps in that document didn't work then that's probably the first thing to figure out16:27
fungilooks like maybe the document there is suggesting to install git-review via python3 and maybe your centos 7 system only has python2?16:29
fungiis that what drove you to install the distro package instead?16:30
todinyes,16:30
fungiinstead of `sudo python3 -m pip install git-review` you probably needed to just `sudo pip install git-review` (and yes, sorry, python is very confusing for those who don't have much background in it)16:30
fungii'll work up a patch for the documentation to clarify that16:31
todinokay, now I have git-review in 1.2816:31
fungis/for those who don't have much background in it// (i use it day in and day out and am still often confused!)16:32
todinyou need to add epel-release, install pip, and than you can install git-review16:32
*** bhavikdbavishi has quit IRC16:33
fungiahh, pip is only on epel? good to know16:34
* fungi hasn't touched rhel/centos in many years16:34
todinme neither16:35
openstackgerritJeremy Stanley proposed zuul/zuul master: Correct git-review install in CentOS 7 quick-start  https://review.opendev.org/67073616:52
fungitodin: does that ^ look like what you ended up doing?16:52
todinfungi: for the redhat part, yes16:53
fungicool. the commands under suse and debuntu sections are just moved up from the bottom list16:54
todinfungi: okay, I see the patch is from you, you are fast. :-)16:55
funginot that fast. i helped my wife troubleshoot some html/javascript problems before i got around to writing this patch16:55
todin:-)16:57
todinthe rest of the quickstart guide is working17:11
fungiawesome17:21

mordredjust in case anyone was wondering, the internet is the worst, and we should probably shut it off20:33
fungii thought we already had and this was merely the afterimage20:38
mordredfungi: oh thank god. does that mean I can stop trying to fix it?20:41
