dmsimardjeblair, mordred: I've asked this before and I'll ask again because my memory sucks. Are you going to relicense Zuul to be full GPL or are you going to bother trying to keep it dual licensed with Apache v2 ?02:56
dmsimardIt keeps bugging me in ARA. I suck at licenses and something tells me I would sleep better at night if it was full GPL but I don't know the ramifications (other than GPL not being "blessed" by the OpenStack foundation)02:57
mordreddmsimard: we are not going to re-license anything - parts of zuulv3 are GPL and parts are Apache. because of where each of those chunks of code live (the GPL portions are plugins to ansible and aren't actually directly imported in the rest of zuul) I do not believe that the transitive nature of the GPL affects the apache portions of zuul03:22
mordredI mean, several of us would prefer zuul to just be GPL - but actually re-licensing the exisiting files would be a TON of work because we'd have to get approval from all of the existing contributors (and more importantly from their companies)03:23
mordreddmsimard: since ARA has the GPL callback plugin put data into a database, and then has the reporting code read from the database, you've actually also got a pretty clear process-boundary03:25
dmsimardmordred: Would you really need to get that sort of approval ? Does Zuul require CLA/ICLA ? I thought a license change was not necessarily retro-active (i.e, previous code releases would not get relicensed)03:25
mordreddmsimard: zuul does not require CLA but even if it did that doesn't matter because the openstack CLA is not a copyright assignment03:26
mordredthat means that the contributors who have contributed code still retain copyright on their contributions. they have licensed those contributions under the terms of the apache license03:26
mordredwe do not have the legal standing to relicense someone else's copyrighted work03:27
mordredonly the copyright holder of a work has the legal right to do that03:27
dmsimardah, thanks for enlightening me :)03:28
mordreddmsimard: it's ... complicated :)03:28
dmsimardmordred: actually had a brief discussion with Robert Fontana about it a while back, yeah.. it's complicated03:29
mordredluckily fontana is awesome03:29
