mkarrayI could be using the search functionality not as intended, but if I use creator_id='name', the results are stories that weren't authored by 'name'15:19
mkarrayIn fact none of the results I would expect come up when using the search functionality. Is this on my part?15:22
mkarrayIn hindsight, I looked into the api and realized it's expecting an integer and not a string, woops!15:33

fungiyeah, there are a number of places where the api expects numeric ids so you're stuck doing recursive lookups. some of those have been improved recently to accept symbolic names when they're guaranteed unique (such as project names, project-group names) but account display names aren't assumed to be unique as it's entirely possible for two people to have the same actual name18:00
fungiwe could probably add the ability to use e-mail address as an alternative to numeric id. also openid url. both of those should identify one and only one account record18:01
mkarrayusing email as an identifier would certainly be a more user friendly approach18:11
mkarrayHow does a user even figure out which numeric id is associated with a user? I don't see sort of id next to a user when looking into who is authoring/assigned to a story.18:13
fungithat should be easy to expose in the webclient, though the usual method assumed is to use the typeahead completion in the search widget18:36
fungisince it performs substring searches against various object types through the api as you type and provides a list of alternatives18:36
diablo_rojoSotK, fungi around for a meeting?18:56
SotKI'm not really around this evening, sorry18:56
fungii am around but don't have much to say other than i've announced 2000z friday for the storyboard.openstack.org server upgrade/move18:57
diablo_rojoSotK, no worries. At some point tomorrow we should quick chat about outreachy stuff.18:57
diablo_rojoSo no meeting then?18:57
fungii'm ambivalent. we have some newcomers to the community so they might show up in the meeting channel expecting one19:00
fungiif we cancel, i'm totally going to make a quick run out to the shops to buy some worthless cardstock propping up the greeting card industry and their penchant for fabricated holidays19:01
fungiwe're about 10 minutes past due to start a meeting if we're going to, so i guess i'll call it and let folks in #openstack-meeting know we're not holding one this week but to find us in here if they have anything they want to discuss19:09
diablo_rojofungi, go buy your cardstock ;)19:11
diablo_rojoI was dming mkarray so they know that we aren't meeting19:11
fungicool19:11
* fungi shall return forthwith19:12
diablo_rojofungi, don't buy any of those conversation hearts. They are all a year old since the factories changed hands19:13
clarkbI convinced larissa to print out cards the girls can color and return the store bought variety \o/19:20
diablo_rojoclarkb, cuuuuuute19:23
fungithanks for the heads up about the conversation hearts19:44
fungithey're vile and chalky yet at the same time i'll compulsively consume them for no apparent reason19:45
fungithough they do make me think of a particular episode of futurama19:45
fungilurr: "these candies are chalky and unpleasant!"19:46
fungibone meal and earwig honey19:46
clarkbthey are like candy corn19:47
clarkbactually not very good but consumed in vast quantities19:47
fungiyes, for some strange reason i'll also feast on candy corn even though it's actually quite terrible stuff19:48
fungitastes like corn sugar19:48
mkarrayI didn't think I'd be offended this quickly on this project19:49
fungiyes, sorry about that :/19:51
diablo_rojoJust like candy corn.19:51
diablo_rojoTwo things that are inedible and yet somehow I get conned into eating some nearly every year.19:51

mkarrayIs anyone familiar with how the search functionality is being executed on the API side? I'm having trouble understanding the difference between the get_all function and the search function.22:01
mkarrayIn reference to api/v1/stories.py for example22:02
diablo_rojomkarray, I could probably figure it out if I dig around, but SotK would be more likely to know off the top of his head. He's uk based so he is probably done for the day by now.22:28
mkarrayThat's fine, this can certainly wait until tomorrow22:29
