souzaI'm researching about live migration at openstack, and following the steps described in this link (http://docs.openstack.org/diablo/openstack-compute/admin/content/live-migration-usage.html), it looks easy. Now i'm researching about if a server stops working, how can i start automatically another server with the same service?11:24
*** ug has quit IRC11:25
Kiallsoren: if you are using libvirt, also NFS /etc/libvirt/nwfilter/11:25
Kialloops11:25
Kiallsouza: *11:25
souzaI don't understand right, i must share this directory among the servers?11:27
KiallRe "if a node goes down", Thats not so easy.. You'll need a few things A) A reliable way to know the host is dead (watch out for split brain/recovering hosts..) and B) A script to update the nova DB to "move" the instance to another server, then finally reboot the instance..11:27
KiallYea, In /etc/libvirt/nwfilter/ there are some files (1 for each instance) that need to be present on the other hosts for them to come back successfully11:28
KiallIts probably a bug that they dont get recreated on the target host automatically, but I've not had time to look into it11:29
*** tungvs has quit IRC11:37
souzaSorry, i've a daily meeting11:38
souzaOk, i'll must replace the libvirt files to all hosts, before execute the script11:39
KiallWell, The same way you NFS mount /var/lib/nova/instances, do the same for /etc/libvirt/nwfilter/ (if you are using libvirt)11:40
souzaOk, but i'm worried about this control script, i'll make a listener to get the status about the network servers?11:42
*** leifmadsen has joined #openstack11:42
KiallThat would be something custom for your environment.. You would need some way to determine a host is dead, and not only that its dead, that it will not come back up with the moved instances alive/running..11:43
KiallEg, someone in the datacenter trips over a network cable, your script moves the VMs, but the DC teck plugs the cable back in.. you need to ensure that cant happen.. (Most likely by using IPMI to forcefully power down the host)11:44

foexlehey guys, i've verry high load on each compute host if i install same packages in instances11:48
foexleor copy files to this instance11:48
Kiallsouza: I cant think of any links off hand, but its a simple concept - if a hardware node has a transient issue and you boot the VMs on another node, the "stuff" will hit the fan if they are both running at once..11:50
KiallIPMI is a tool you can use (assuming your hardware supports it) to "virtually" unplug the power cable from the server (among other things)11:51
uvirtbotNew bug: #907299 in openstack-ci "jenkins jclouds plugin should be able to spin up sets of machines" [Low,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/90729911:51
KiallThat's really the only way to be 100% sure the VM wont be running on 2 nodes at once...11:51
Kiallfoexle: i'd bet its something to do with disk activity inside the instances, are you using software RAID or something?11:52

SeuMadrugaBut instances running on nova-compute that are installed on nova-controller works.12:36
Kiallyes, but instance traffic is passed through nova-network on the controller node..12:36
KiallSo - You need to ensure both nodes have their network cards setup correctly, not just so they can access the internet, but so they can bridge VMs correctly12:36
KiallThere is lots of info in the docs on getting the network setup, double check you didnt miss anything!12:37

kbringardit also means that things like, nova-manage project zipfile won't work15:02
kbringardwhich is why my script generates a basic novarc for you15:02
kbringardI should mention that this has nothing to do with the api-paste and keystone configuration15:03
kbringardthis all assumes you have an already working keystone setup15:03
kbringardso anyway, the script will "generate" ec2 keys15:03
kbringardbasically creating randomly generated strings in the regular EC2 key format15:03
