kbringardI don't think fixed_range is used in vlan mode20:03
kbringardyou define networks ahead of time using the nova-manage network create command20:03
kbringardand it generates entries for the fixed_ips table, which get used20:04

jantjeHi everyone. We have a C/C++ code project which takes up to 45min to compile on very modern desktop hardware, like i7 950.  I'm wondering If openstack object storage would be suitable to provide storage to a large cluster of build machines (that also are used as storage service).20:21

sam_itxkbringard: Humm... so for VLAN mode, how does VM gets particular IP address (private IP)  ?20:25
kbringardnova-network selecs an available one from the fixed_ips table and writes it out to the dnsmasq leases file20:25
kbringardthen when the VM comes up it does a DHCP request, but since it's generated mac, instance-id, and IP are already in the "static" leases file20:26
kbringardthat's what dnsmasq gives it20:26
sam_itxalso, so you create networks ahead of time, and specify, which tenant/project should use which network ? Or openstack will pick one up /20:26
*** dprince has quit IRC20:26
kbringardit picks the next available one20:26
sam_itxgot it. thanks20:26
kbringardthe way we've been doing it here is20:26
kbringardcreate networks and projects in pairs20:27
kbringardthen launch an instance and shut it down as soon as the project is created20:27
kbringardso the network and project get paired20:27
kbringardbut, it really doesn't matter, since we do all nonpublic routable space and all /24s20:27
kbringardso you could just create a bunch of networks ahead of time and then the projects will take and give them back as they're created and destroyed20:28
sam_itxAre you using VLANs ?20:28
