ttxRe: the openstack-map, it targeted to users, and displayed in the context of the latest release... I feel like displaying a component on the map that is actually not in the release would be a lot more confusing than having a component come back after a missed release08:42
ttxAnd yes, it is an opinionated view of what "the product" that people can consume is08:44
ttxi.e. what we want users to think of when they deploy "openstack"08:45
ttxThere are many many ways to slice that one, and I'm open to revisiting the compromise we last arrived to08:46
ttx(if we think the current one is lacking for some reason)08:46

fungijamespage: speaking of which, is sunbeam usable yet (doesn't seem like hemanth is in here)? it sounds like the reason it was excluded from the latest iteration of the map is that it wasn't clear that sunbeam has been released yet (the sunbeam-charms repo has no tags and the rest of the sunbeam repos seem to be in the process of retiring)12:41
jamespageusuable yes - not quite ready to pop our first release (probably June for that)12:41
jamespagewe lag on the main OpenStack cycle - 2024.1 enablement happening over the next few weeks12:42
fungijamespage: makes sense, thanks for the status update!12:48
fungii suppose once that's available, it might make sense to add to the map graphic12:49
ttxWe can sync addition to the map with general availability in a few months12:49
slaweqJayF hi, just a heads up that I will not be able to attend TC PTG session on Friday. I have personal stuff to do at the same time. It popped up recently and I can't reschedule it at all - sorry for late notice14:19
JayFThanks for the heads up.15:26
JayFtc-members: tc<>community interaction PTG session in about 45 minutes in https://meetpad.opendev.org/apr2024-ptg-os-tc16:13
spotz[m]I'm probably going to join on my ipad so I can take you all outside to watch the eclipse:)16:31
JayFIf previous years are any indication, it's extremely likely we'll end up ending early. Maximum (20%) here is at around :30 after the session ends.16:32
spotz[m]JayF: I wanted to add a topic to discuss the charter change for AC status, because some of the discussions on Thursday might lead to eventually moving stuff out of the OpenStack namespace I'm not sure if rewording to say repos under the OpenStack repos is the best way or to add SiG repos to the list as gmann was suggesting. I'd like to reduce the need to update in the future16:33
JayFI struggle with the idea of adding new topics this late because it means we've not billboarded it to the community for their chance to participate.16:34
JayFI have no objection to talking about it, it is a valuable topic, but ^ is a concern to adding something about it now16:34
spotz[m]Yeah and it can wait until next week's meeting it's not a big rush except by mid-release to make sure everyone gets the opportunity to vote16:35
fungii'm curious how projects outside the openstack git namespace would count toward contributor status, and under what circumstances, but we can save that for whenever that discussion happens16:42
gouthamr_JayF++ on the thought of giving advance notice; appreciate you sharing that... (learning moment for me)16:46
gouthamr_for today's discussion though, we don't have any agenda, correct? were we planning on previewing the rest of the TC topics?16:46
gouthamr_if spotz's AC discussion needs to happen with PTLs and other leaders, it can probably be an open discussion item where we don't make any agreements/decisions.. but, foster a discussion either case.. i suspect most of the agreeing/decision making will happen on gerrit: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/governance/+/91502116:46
JayFHistorically, the one hour "TC/Commuinity interaction" doesn't have an agenda, it's an open time for community members to have a diaglogue with TC16:47
JayFBut I'll note, in my tenure on the TC, this'll be my 4th PTG, and I've never seen that session have too much value in reality. 16:47
spotz[m]fungi: If something became inactive and moved to X and then someone put in a security fix was the scenario in my mind:) I'm also making the assumption with that that the SiG repos are under OpenStack16:48
JayFOne of those things where, it's nice to offer a venue for people, but we have a lot of open venues (IRC/ML) already and maybe next year I'd suggest whoever is planning next year consider eliminating it unless it shows itself to be valuable this year.16:48
fungispotz[m]: things don't "move to x/" from openstack/ regardless16:49
gmannwell in past it has been really valuable especially initial couple of PTG when I scheduled it as first time, we got a good feedback on TC should be more technical work/guidance to community than just project removal/addition body16:49
fungiwe retire them in openstack/ and then anyone interested in resurrecting them can fork them in a new namespace (but please not x/, pretty pretty please!)16:50
spotz[m]fungi: Good to know so changing the wording to say repos under the OenStack namespace should cover everyone:)16:50
gmannIMO, we should keep having that dialog with community and what they want us to work more towards and any issue they are facing and we can solve16:50
JayFgmann: I'm glad to hear you found value from it. It's hard sometime to know how well something is going like that16:51
gouthamr_JayF: ty; yes, definitely worth noting that all those avenues exist (and are used well)16:52
gmannit is more of how leaders speak up in that sessions instead of just waiting for us to initiate/discuss something. 16:53
gmannwhich is hard part I think16:53
JayFYeah, getting folks to engage is always the hard part.16:53
gouthamr_gmann: agreed, +1 from time to time, projects would want some direction/decisions to occur in the TC and this open discussion hour would be a good place to seed such discussions - and less "formal".. "what should we do about x?" in a forum like this may kick off the discussion in the other forums 16:54
gmannJayF: Separate thing about new TC members. I sent them onboarding email but forgot to update the gerrit group (I remembered it this morning), as you are here, can you do that https://review.opendev.org/admin/groups/c88faeb0c52f35ee530be8defcc9627ea87b28df,members16:55
gmannalso, feel free to add more in onboarding if something I missed. I kept you in CC in that email.16:57
gouthamr_++ thanks gmann :) 16:58
spotz[m]Ok the darkest coverage here will be 13:35 so after our session though it will startgetting dard at 12:1516:59
dansmithJayF: I hope it was clear that I fully agreed with that....and that it was a good place to end :)18:01
JayFdansmith: you didn't restate it wrongly :D 18:02
* JayF goes out to see less sun than usual18:02
clarkbdansmith: re what you are saying about more existential crises, that is where I think someone acting as a project manager could be valuable. A clear "hey everyone listen this is important" communication and tracking to avoid that class of problem I hope would go a long way towards convincing the business side of the equation to invest in that stuff.18:02
dansmithyeah, possibly... I guess my faith in humanity hasn't led me to believe that it would help18:03
clarkbthere is definitely a risk (and maybe a big one) that it would be ignored by those groups/individuals that could impact things in a positive way18:04
JayFdansmith: eventlet is maybe a example of what clarkb is proposing being somewhat successful: I wrote a business case, ensured (somewhat behind the scenes) it got in front of the right eyes, and resources were provided towards both the short and longer term issues18:05
dansmithsure, I mean I expect most of us are doing that internally18:06
fungii agree it's an unknown as to whether an project manager external to contributing orgs could be successful at doing that, or perhaps a coordinator of the de facto project managers within orgs18:09
fungireminds me a bit of wendar's (or was it someone else's?) "silent influencers" idea a while back18:10
fungiwe've had a few failed or at least not-entirely-successful attempts over the years to reach the people setting developer priorities within orgs and getting them to talk to each other18:10
