ttxI failed at bankrupcy10:11
ttxRe: Trove/Searchlight/Freezer and the will to apply some consistent decision there, I think the 3 cases are really different.10:13
ttxIn the case of Trove, a leadership transition was in progress already, the election just came with the wrong timing10:14
ttxso to me it's a no-brainer.10:14
*** EmilienM is now known as EvilienM10:15
ttxIn the case of Searchlight and Freezer, the inactivity during the Rocky cycle resulted in them being dropped from release. Intermittent releases look really bad from a user perspective, so I was strongly in support of dropping them10:15
ttxIn the case of Freezer, a bunch of existing users expressed worry and one of them stepped up10:16
ttxIn the case of Searchlight, we have a volunteer but there wasn't exactly a pile of users calling due to worries10:16
ttxSo I'm a definitive +2 for Trove, a small +1 on Freezer and a small -1 on Searchlight10:20

cdent"OpenStack 2018: State of the Technology"10:24
ttxhmm, no. I can ask around10:24
ttxanything specific you'd like to know ?10:24
cdentI've seen a brief summary and it sounds pretty scathing, but also with some valid points10:24
cdent"Recent enhancements to OpenStack, which were designed to remediate long-standing operational and deployment deficiencies, have come too late, and the industry has moved on."10:24
cdentAmongst other things, I'm curious which those are10:25
ttxFor the record: zaneb is not around, but I would be happy to co-host a tech vision post-lunch thing with cdent and him10:28

dhellmannttx: I added a "PTG Planning" section to https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/tc-status-update -- let me know what you think or go ahead and add more detail if you want14:51
dhellmannso many prepositional phrases in that sentence14:53
ttxSide effect of etherpad and me trying to change the meaning of the sentence without changing so many words14:55
dhellmannit looks good now14:55
ttxI wanted to add that sense of urgency to it :)14:55
dhellmannmy initial word salad wasn't easy to work with14:55
ttxsince I'd like us to finalize that before end of month ideally14:55
ttxto give enough time for people to prepare14:55
ttxend of next week would be ideal but we might not be able to do that14:56
dhellmannwe have a few topics that might work as lightning talks and if we do that I see 4 sessions (assuming only 1 for lightning talks)14:59
dhellmannwelcome, future, storyboard, lightning talks15:00
dhellmann smcginnis : could your release management talk be condensed into a lightning talk?15:00
smcginnisdhellmann: Yep15:01

fungicdent: i'm told by someone who got access to that report that it doesn't actually say which improvements, but does suggest that ironic is an important feature (in support of popularity container technologies) and that openstack needs to double-down on api stability to avoid breaking organizations who are locked-into/stuck running openstack already or else they might jump ship17:03
fungisounds to me like whoever funded that particular gartner study wants the industry to believe that openstack's only hope now is to cling tightly to the users it already has17:05
*** tellesnobrega has quit IRC17:12
cdentfungi: thanks. that interpretation seems pretty likely17:19
fungiamazon/google/microsoft setting their sights on the private cloud market probably means an increasing number of disinfo campaigns we'll need to combat17:20
fungipay-for-message outfits like gartner are one of the primary weapons in such a war17:21
* cdent nods17:26
scastwo years ago, chef openstack 'retired' the ironic cookbook after a major refactor and no apparent feedback on the one that existed. it sounds like, as steward to one of the paths to 'openstack', that decision needs to be reconsidered17:26
