tellesnobregais it ready to merge or you want to run more tests on it?13:04
toskyit's ready, I will probably backport it, but it depends on https://review.openstack.org/#/c/605798/13:04
toskywhich also good for backport, as it should fix ubuntu image generation13:05
toskyif Gaasmann agrees :)13:05
tellesnobregamerging this13:05
tellesnobregaand I will merge yours in a bit as well13:06

Bhujaymerger of  cloudera and hortonworks can be interesting for sahara project https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/03/cloudera-and-hortonworks-announce-all-stock-merger.html14:29
toskyWHAT!14:34
tellesnobregathats new14:37

openstackgerritLuigi Toscano proposed openstack/sahara stable/rocky: sahara-image-pack: remove bashisms from shell scripts  https://review.openstack.org/60797714:51
toskythe article says 60% Cloudera, 40% Hortonworks14:51
toskyI wonder how it will work between Cloudera Manager and Ambari14:52
toskyI hope that Ambari will stay, it's a FLOSS solution (while Cloudera Manager is not)14:52
tellesnobregayes14:52
tellesnobregathat can turn easily to bad14:52
tellesnobregaif they kill ambari14:52
toskyeven if the both companies are not just the basic hadoop distribution, they have more products, so let's see14:55

openstackgerritNicolas Haller proposed openstack/sahara master: Fix a typo on Storm plugin cluster info (Strom -> Storm)  https://review.openstack.org/60798115:04
*** jeremyfreudberg has joined #openstack-sahara15:07
jeremyfreudbergsorry guys, totally spaced on the meeing15:07
jeremyfreudbergthe hortonworks-cloudera merger will be interesting for sure. hopefully the all-floss model of HDP will persist, but I'm not hopeful15:17
jeremyfreudbergI wonder the relation of this merger to the recent parternship of Hortonworks with IBM and Red Hat15:17
toskyoh, well, I have no idea15:20
toskyand np for the meeting :)15:20
toskyI kind of feel that the plugin split helps us even more right now15:21
Bhujayi relate this to openstack downstream  based deployment method vs deploy from upstream , for some who dares to go to the upstream based solution , there is tremendous flexibility and freedom. As a community we can make it easier for other to adopt . And similarly , can sahara make it possible to install most of the good solutions of hdp , cdh or mapr from apache hadoop / or upstrean distro, without heavy dependency on their plugins , may be15:40
Bhujaythrough config-managment tools like ansible integration or even prebuilt containers ,  this could be usp of sahara in the long run...15:40
Bhujaysorry if i have said too much :)15:40
toskyanother change of the internal engine is probably too much at least for the next two cycles :D15:44
Bhujayagreed , too large a task and not required immediately since the support for both the plugins is going to remain for some time or at least one of them to continue ..15:50
Bhujaybut may be in the long run and it can be  a gradual extension of vanilla plugin ..15:50
toskyit would be interesting and tellesnobrega was working for a while to add storm to vanilla in order to have a unified image for vanilla, spark and storm15:52
toskybut of course there are other priorities always coming15:52
toskyeverything is possible when you have the proper manpower15:52
*** Bhujay has quit IRC15:55
jeremyfreudbergactually, it does sort of raise the question of, why does our vanilla plugin, with its purity, not use (upstream) Ambari? a middle ground-- more lightweight than the full HDP but still all the benefits of Ambari provisioning-- easy to expand to more services, monitoring15:56
jeremyfreudbergplus, the code in sahara which manages a vanilla cluster's services is not reusable15:57
toskythat would be a possibility, yes16:09
toskynot sure how much Ambari can be used without HDP16:09
jeremyfreudbergtheoretically it is totally independent. but, install from source tree only, I think (only the hortonworks repositories have Ambari packaged)16:12
jeremyfreudbergstill, worth exploring16:12
*** jeremyfreudberg has quit IRC16:12
tellesnobregathat would be interesting to see16:20
