opendevreviewwu.chunyang proposed openstack/kolla-ansible master: [doc] fix typo  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/91422402:05
kevkofrickler: Deploy split glance-api services (from kolla etherpad assigned to you ) ...does it mean that we want to split glance-api, glance-cache ..etc ? 09:35
fricklerkevko: no, split internal and public glance-api because they need different config. https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OSSN/OSSN-009009:41
opendevreviewMaksim Malchuk proposed openstack/kayobe stable/2023.1: Adds support for custom RabbitMQ configuration.  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kayobe/+/91443309:44
kevkofrickler: ahaaaaa, makes sense ...09:45
kevkodo anybody know what roles should swift user have ? 10:40

opendevreviewMichal Arbet proposed openstack/kolla-ansible master: [DNM] Try to turn on swift tempest smoke tests  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/91441111:07
SvenKieskekevko: I assume swift uses the keystone_auth backend? https://docs.openstack.org/swift/latest/overview_auth.html#keystone-auth I don't really know much about swift, as we mostly just use ceph rgw instead.11:30
opendevreviewMichal Arbet proposed openstack/kolla-ansible master: [DNM] Try to turn on swift tempest smoke tests  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/91441111:43
greatgatsbyGood day.  We've upgraded from yoga to zed in our dev environment.  Seem to be having an issue with swift-s3.  I keep getting "The request signature we calculated does not match the signature you provided".  From googling, a lot of people seem to get this due to path-style vs virtual-host-style, but I can't see anywhere this has changed between yoga and zed.  Grepped through release notes and didn't find anything there either.  Any help 12:23
greatgatsbyis appreciated.12:23
kevkogreatgatsby: try to ask in swift channel12:41
greatgatsbythanks... still digging into logs here, but haven't found anything yet.  I'll update in there if/when I get it working12:50
dawudmfrickler or kevko would you be able to review this please https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/91359713:01
kevkodawudm: done13:08
fricklergreatgatsby: do you actually use swift or ceph+radosgw?13:09
dawudmThanks kevko13:12
dawudmif you could take a look at this too kevko I would much appreciate it https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/913320/3 :) 13:12
opendevreviewMichal Arbet proposed openstack/kolla-ansible master: [DNM] Try to turn on swift tempest smoke tests  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/91441113:13
greatgatsbyfrickler: afaik just swift, backed by flasharray network storage.  We have 2 dev environments right now, one is still on yoga and swift-s3 is still working, another we've upgraded to zed that's having swift-s3 issues immediately following the deploy.  I don't think it's an endpoint issue either, but we did see a lot of endpoint refactoring between yoga and zed.13:19
frickleryeah, I have no idea why people prefer swift over ceph, can't help with that13:22
kevkofrickler: i also don't know ..but i thought that swift is very cheap storage ...13:23
greatgatsbyswift is just the object storage api, no?  Our actual storage backend is a large flasharray.  13:27
SvenKieskeyeah, I'm also not sure what kevko was meaning with "cheap storage". swift and rgw are just object/s3 compatible apis with autn/authz. if you are a heavy user of these it might matter which one you use though, because in the details the apis actually differ and don't have feature parity13:29
SvenKieskelast time I looked, that is. for 99% of use cases it doesn't matter tbf.13:30
greatgatsbythat's exactly how I understand it, and how we've implemented it, it's just an API on top of some kind of storage, whatever that may be.  We use swift to expose object storage via both the swift API and the S3 API.13:31
kevkoSvenKieske: wikipedia uses swift :) 13:33
kevkoSvenKieske: or used to use 13:33
SvenKieskeokay? not sure how that is related to cheap storage, but anyway :)13:34
greatgatsbyit's been rock solid for use, backed by a rather large PureStorage flash array.  I wouldn't say it's "cheap" :-)13:34
greatgatsbyappreciate the help/discussion regardless, I'll keep testing and digging through logs/configs13:36
SvenKieskeI don't know how active the swift irc channel is, I'd suggest it might be more effective to write your problem to the openstack-discuss ML13:38
greatgatsbythanks SvenKieske - hopefully I can figure this out, but if not, I'll try that next13:38
SvenKieskegood luck :)13:39

bbezakwatermelon?14:03
fricklerred on the inside? ;)14:04
SvenKieskewatermelon? :D14:04
SvenKieskeah! lol14:04
bbezak:)14:04
SvenKieskedidn't get that14:04
mmalchukgreen outside, red inside))) lol14:04
bbezakexactly14:04
bbezaknot so bad nowadays I think14:04
SvenKieskewell at least kolla build failrate seems flat since 24.03.14:05
SvenKieskewasn't the dashboard supposed to be fixed? I see "no data" again: https://grafana.opendev.org/d/c0d59dad13/kolla-failure-rate?orgId=114:05
SvenKieskefor k-a source graphs, kolla graphs are fine14:05
bbezakI think it was working last time I checked14:06
fricklerI didn't look at it in ages, no idea14:06
SvenKieskeI'm pretty sure as well it worked, I'm to blame for not looking often enough I guess. :D14:06
bbezakok, let's look into that14:06
fricklerI haven't seen too many complaints from kevko recently, so CI can't be too red in general, I'd say ;)14:07
bbezakyeah, I think it looks good14:07
kevko:D14:07
kevkocentos build is broken 14:08
kevkobut it's non-voting14:08
SvenKieskemhm, can I ask something about CI? I know we plan to extend ARM support downstream, ARM pipeline still seems rather flaky14:08
SvenKieskeand is non voting, if it's in good shape now, could we make it voting?14:08
fricklerseems there was an issue with centos mirrors earlier today, jrosser was also complaining, should be better now14:08
fricklerfor ARM builds we only have a single cloud provider, that's mostly why we consider it not too reliable14:09
bbezak#topic Release tasks14:10
bbezakwe're in R-1!14:10
mnasiadkaPeople running and screaming14:11
bbezak:)14:11
bbezakhttps://docs.openstack.org/kolla/latest/contributor/release-management.html#r-1-prepare-kolla-kolla-ansible-for-rc1-stable-branch-creation14:11
fricklerbit early for branching, isn't it?14:11
mnasiadkaIt says prepare14:11
mnasiadkaAnd we will be prepared for next 3 months14:12
bbezaklet's start to prepare then14:12
bbezakI can take a look14:12
SvenKieskewell the UCA and RDO stuff got merged afaik14:12
mnasiadkaSo let’s have a look what is missing14:12
mnasiadkaAnd we need a volunteer to fix Octavia14:12
kevkooctavia ? what is with octavia ? 14:13
kevko*wrong14:13
SvenKieskedo we have a bugreport for octavia? I have only a fuzzy memory what exactly is broken14:13
mnasiadkakevko: CI is failing on cascade delete of LB14:13
kevkoaaaaa, i saw this 14:13
mmalchukmaybe forgot anything in A-C-K ? again14:13
bbezakany volunteer to take a look into octavia in CI ?14:14
SvenKieskenow, is this a release task? or just regular bugfix?14:14
mnasiadkaExploratory surgery14:14
bbezakregular bugfix needed for release14:15
bbezak:)14:15
SvenKieske:D14:15
kevkobbezak: i will probably because i am playing with ci and now everything is almost working.... so i am playing around ...14:15
bbezakcool14:15
bbezakshout if you need help14:15
kevkook ..14:15
SvenKieskeI got a question regarding the release tasks posted above, it has this gem: "The release notes for each project should be tidied up" and I have no idea what that means even after following the review examples there.14:15
mnasiadkaIt means read through all renos, fix obvious errors, remove duplicates14:16
SvenKieskeit seems there are mainly old release notes being deleted? I'm not really sure, is this obsolete?14:16
mnasiadkaSo it looks readable for a random person14:16
SvenKieskeah okay. weird. I would think this is part of normal code review, but okay, thanks for the explainer :)14:16
mnasiadkaWe have sort of a rule to not obsess over renos in code review14:17
mnasiadkaAnd fix it close to release14:17
jovialAnd mistakes do sneek in :)14:17
mnasiadkaTo improve the overall merge flow or something like that14:17
fricklersome things are also easier to spot with a global view, like consistent formatting, e.g. use ``code`` where applicable14:18
SvenKieskeok, I guess I missed those fixes then the last few releases :) thanks for the explanation, I just didn't know how to interpret "tidied up".14:18
mnasiadkaOk, I’d like to discuss the ptg schedule if bbezak will permit14:18
bbezakI'll think about it14:18
mnasiadkaI can’t do any other day that Monday, bbezak is on vacation14:18
bbezakok, granted14:18
bbezak#topic PTG planning14:18
mnasiadkaSo my proposal is to do Kolla/Kolla-Ansible on Monday for 4 hours14:19
mnasiadkaAnd follow up on not discussed topic on the week after if needed14:19
mnasiadkaUnless frickler or kevko feel an urgent need to drive the Kolla PTG on Tue14:20
kevkohmm, we have state holiday :/14:20
kevkobut i will probably join ..14:20
mnasiadkakevko: on Monday?14:20
kevkolet me check 14:21
kevkoi am not sure14:21
SvenKieskethat would be April, 8th14:21
fricklerI'm fine with skipping Tue14:21
kevkookay, we don't :) 14:22
mnasiadkaOk, so that’s agreed - Monday only14:22
kevko+114:22
mnasiadkajovial: want to move Kayobe?14:22
mnasiadkaIt’s currently planned for Thursday14:22
jovialI would prefer Wednesday if we did move it. But does that work for others?14:23
SvenKieskedoes somebody adjust the ptg schedule then? so people are informed?14:24
mnasiadkaI will adjust and send mail to Ml14:24
mmalchukall this because we skip doodle service)14:25
mnasiadkajovial: Kayobe is mainly SHPC - just make sure key people will attend and I’ll move14:25
jovialI guess if Kayobe was moved to the Tuesday then we'll avoid the normal kolla IRC meeting14:25
mnasiadkammalchuk: doodle made no sense because you all chose the same slots we used for ages14:25
mmalchukmaybe or maybe not14:26
mmalchukanyway we change slots14:27
bbezakok, anything else PTG related?14:27
bbezakas a reminder a link to etherpad - https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/kolla-dalmatian-ptg14:28
bbezaklet's move on14:30
SvenKieske#Link https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/kolla-dalmatian-ptg14:30
bbezak#topic Current cycle planning14:30
bbezakdoes anybody has something to discuss about outstanding tasks?14:31
bbezakI was overloaded with customer related tasks recently, so no much update from me I'm affraid14:32
kevkoI want to ask to merge init-runonce modification to stable branches 14:32
kevko:)14:32
SvenKieskewell looking at the caracal tasks not that many are done afaik?14:33
SvenKieskeanybody has any news on the next ubuntu release? we wanted to build that in for C release14:34
kevko25.4 ? :D 14:34
mmalchuknope... silent14:34
SvenKieskeno, 24.04.14:34
bbezakkevko: I've seen a bit discussion the other day. I don't think it is a good idea to modify stable branches without doing the same to master?14:35
kevkogoogle saying Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, codenamed Noble Numbat, is scheduled for release on April 25, 2024.14:35
mmalchukSvenKieske ask again afer 25 apr14:35
mmalchukafter*14:35
kevkobbezak: yes, i want to merge also to master ...same patch ...but it's needed also to merge to stable branches ..as upgrade jobs are checkout ing previous release ...14:35
SvenKieskebut why was it put on the agenda then? I mean the release dates of ubuntu are pretty well known in advance? weird.14:36
kevkobbezak: moreover, it's only runonce script which is only suggested to use as per documentation ...normally it's not used I would say ..with end user 14:36
bbezakSvenKieske: I think it was just to prepare images building for now. And caracal is a good place for that as it is a SLURP release14:37
kevkobbezak: now i hacked ci :D and download script from my github repo to pass upgrade jobs :D 14:37
bbezak24.04 feature will be probably backported to caracal anyway at some point14:37
SvenKieskeok14:38
mmalchukbtw about CI we have an issue with docs site preview. anyone know this?14:38
SvenKieskemeta: can we maybe clean up the whiteboard? it still has listed e.g. train PTG; afaik a link to some archived document would be enough there, no? the Whiteboard is 880 lines long now and hard to navigate..14:39
SvenKieskesorry, maybe off topic for current cycle planning14:39
fricklermmalchuk: where do you see that issue?14:40
mmalchukpreview didn't work14:40
mmalchukon any last change14:40
bbezakSvenKieske: I'll add it to notes14:40
mmalchukI'll show you... moment14:40
SvenKieskebbezak: ty, I can also volunteer to do cleanup or create some archive somewhere (different etherpad) as long as I know what can be cleaned up and what should stay.14:41
fricklerwfm https://storage.bhs.cloud.ovh.net/v1/AUTH_dcaab5e32b234d56b626f72581e3644c/zuul_opendev_logs_33b/911417/12/check/openstack-tox-docs/33b87a9/docs/14:41
SvenKieskemmalchuk: maybe some storage issue? did you get an (HTTP) error? anything?14:42
mmalchukoops... fixed. looks like infra knows and fixed14:42
mmalchukit was an issue with listing 403 forbidden with banner14:43
mmalchukanyway fixed... lets move ahead14:43
bbezak#topic Additional agenda (from whiteboard)14:43
bbezakI can see mostly a review requests there14:43
bbezakanything to add apart of that?14:43
SvenKieskeyes :) I already asked this week but I guess if you don't highlight usernames nobody has time :P :D14:44
mhineryes, plus Ivan still has that issue with Docker version on Debian14:44
bbezakmhiner, r-krkcek14:44
bbezaksorry :) r-krcek14:44
mhinerother than that, it's just reviews from me14:45
SvenKieskeso I'll explicitly mention it here: mnasiadka, frickler: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/855498 please come to a solution where to test ovn-exporter, currently I made it work in the ovn scenario and I honestly would prefer if it stays there, because these tests are pretty brittle14:45
SvenKieskemeaning it didn't work at all in prometheus-opensearch scenario for many reasons.14:46
r-krcekFor me its the reviews and one question, but wanted to ask that in the open debate. 14:46
bbezak#topic Open discussion14:47
SvenKiesker-krcek: seems you need to rebase the "add sysctl role change" https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/91235114:47
r-krcekI noticed that we have jinja filter for finding out that service is enabled and mapped to host. However, it looks like it is used only with certain services. Is there a specific reason for not using it everywhere or was is just because of lack of time to do it? The filter: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/66592214:47
mmalchuklets discuss https://bugs.launchpad.net/kolla/+bug/204295414:47
r-krcekSvenKieske: oh, sorry. Ill do that right after the meeting.14:48
mmalchukimho https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla/+/913584 not needed and https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla/+/904781 need revert14:48
mmalchukthe issue appears in kernel 5.18+ but we have 5.4 and 5.15 maximum14:49
mmalchukthe issue not reproduced on Focal and Yoga14:50
SvenKieskemmalchuk: case in point: I know people running HWE kernels on jammy, which bumps you up til 6.5 kernel :)14:50
mmalchukHWE is a 5.1514:50
opendevreviewRoman Krček proposed openstack/kolla-ansible master: Update cell0 database connection  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla-ansible/+/91092414:50
frickler22.04-hwe is 6.514:51
mmalchukshould we support HWE on Jammy in Yoga? Jammy only for transition to Zed14:52
frickleryoga is unmaintained, we should not care at all14:52
mmalchukso14:52
SvenKieskefrickler: maybe we don't have this issue because we have newer openstack?14:52
SvenKieskedidn't look into it what the actual issue is14:52
mmalchukI've dig deeper14:53
mmalchukthe issue only on upstream kernel with old libs14:53
SvenKieskefunnily enough the bugreport doesn't mention what the bug is, just that there is one.14:53
SvenKieskeah this is the original bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/neutron/+bug/199573514:54
mmalchukyep14:54
mmalchukI've tested all the libs/packages for issue and provide paste links14:55
mmalchukeven if we planed to merge https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla/+/913584 we need fix issue with pyroute2.protocols14:55
mmalchukwe install it in the https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla/+/904781 via packages14:55
mmalchukand it can't be uninstalled via pip14:56
bbezakr-krcek: let me get back to you on your services/filter question, I need to check this feature 14:58
SvenKieskelol?14:58
SvenKieskeaccording to https://openstack-ci-reports.ubuntu.com/reports/cloud-archive/yoga_versions.html the package is not called "python3-pyroute2" but "pyroute2"14:59
SvenKieskebut it's installed via "python3-pyroute2" https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla/+/904781/3/docker/openstack-base/Dockerfile.j214:59
SvenKieskethe other versions in the CI also report this package name afaik14:59
mmalchukthere is no issues with packages14:59
kevkoSvenKieske: pyroute2 is source package name15:00
mmalchukin current images we have pyroute2 on both venv and system15:00
kevkoSvenKieske: python3-pyroute2 is binary package15:00
SvenKieskekevko: ah nice, madness..15:00
mmalchukI've publeshed an edit for https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/kolla/+/91358415:00
SvenKieskemmalchuk: understood, seems you are right (beside the HWE kernel version, but those are a moving target anyway)15:01
kevkoSvenKieske: standard15:01
SvenKieskeI guess we are in overtime now.15:02
bbezakok guys, I need to jump to some call. However please continue the discussion of course :)15:02

SvenKieskemmalchuk: I already did. I guess I'll just bring up the topic about additional cores again. seems our cores are overworked/have to many responsibilities.15:05
SvenKieskemaybe we can at least get some "backport cores"? that only can +2 backports? :D would need additional ACLs I guess..15:05
mmalchukSvenKieske and we almost no cores in Kayobe15:05
SvenKieskewell sadly I have to reply that I'm not paid to work on kayobe and my free time on openstack is rather limited, I need to go outside from time to time, that's what my wife demands at least :)15:06
mmalchukdon't have cores I mean15:07
