recycleherolies are being told in this group. they said I dont need anything related to ansible on the target hosts. yet I think some python moduels get installed on the target host with installing ansilbe and kolla ansible on the target hosts11:07
recycleheroso we need ansible and ansible-kolla on both target and deploy hosts11:08

yoctozeptorecyclehero: ansible is not required on the target hosts; kolla-ansible assumes some ansible knowledge: https://docs.ansible.com/ansible/latest/installation_guide/intro_installation.html#managed-node-requirements11:43
yoctozeptoif it is not sufficient, then a bug report against kolla-ansible (or sometimes perhaps ansible itself) is welcome11:44

r3ap3rrecyclehero: as for your questions from yesterday, `enable_cinder: "yes"` enables cinder for your Openstack deployment but this is if you do NOT use Ceph starting with Kolla-Ansible 9.0.0 if memory serves. I'll check just to be sure, the Train release is when they dropped support for deploying Ceph with Kolla-Ansible. You have to build Ceph first and then deploy Kolla-Ansible to have Ceph storage. You have to13:44
r3ap3rmake sure you configure LVM during your OS install and then you can configure the `cinder-volumes` Logical Volume after that for Cinder to use. If you have a different Logical Volume you want to use, you go in your `globals.yml`, uncomment `cinder_volume_group` and change what is in the quotes to the name of the Logical Volume you want to use.13:44
r3ap3rrecyclehero: VIP address is primarily used if you have multiple Control nodes and/or you use TLS for access to Horizon. So you don't necessarily need it if you are keeping things simple.13:46
r3ap3rrecyclehero: Yes, to enable any specific service, change the `"no"` next to the service in your `globals.yml` to `"yes"` but be aware that there may be additional requirements for a single service. You can look at https://docs.openstack.org/kolla-ansible/ussuri/reference/index.html for a particular service, just be sure to change the "ussuri" part in the url for whatever version of Openstack you are trying to13:50
r3ap3rinstall.13:50
r3ap3rrecyclehero: The `start-registry` script isn't meant to be used for "production", it is more geared for proof-of-concepts and/or development. There are other docker registries out there like Harbor or you could use Gitlab which has a built in docker registry, you may have to have a proper license I think?13:54
r3ap3rrecyclehero: I think that covers most if not all what you were asking about? ^^^13:55

recycleheror3ap3r: I just saw your responses. beatiful. thanks. I am using NFS as my backend. I hope I have the choice of ephemeral storage on the compute node + NFS provided by cinder.19:39
recycleheroI am planning to build 2 users and 3 instances on the deployed multinode(actulaly its all in one but not localhost) and then try to migrate it to a actual multinode(1 compute 1 controller + NFS backend) as a verification.19:40
recycleheroif everything its prove great agility and I am all in. I am talking like I have a choice19:41
recycleheroI have 10 vms in my current queens setup and have to return the compute mobo in 2 days. I have let go for migirating the vms and planning to get all the data from the inside vm and recreate(update) my instances. its sounds very noob.19:43
recycleheroI hope kolla-ansible gives me agility. also I will implement some sort of backup strategy. I am thinking 1-NFS+RAID 2-daily automated openstack db backups 3-kolla config backup. thats the minimum thats came to my mind for DR. then I will introduce swift to my setup.19:46
recycleherothen I have to backup swift :D19:46
recycleherojk, I think swift have ways for handling itself19:46
recycleherojust like raid19:46
recycleheroyoctozepto: you said Ansible is not needed in target host. but when I was troubleshooting I did install it anyway on my test target host. I am running deploy now, meanwhile having 'top' open in the target host. Why did I see ansible come up??19:49
*** k_mouza has joined #openstack-kolla19:54
*** born2bake has quit IRC19:57
*** k_mouza has quit IRC19:59
r3ap3rrecyclehero: That sounds cool. Personally I Ceph although for smaller lab setups like the ones people have at home vs work it may not seem worth the time setting up? What yoctozepto said about Ansible not being needed on the target hosts is true. The only thing really needed for "targets" in the Ansible world is ssh and Python. You can even manage network switches and routers with Ansible(I do this in my20:00
r3ap3renvironment) so you definitely don't HAVE to have it on the targets. In our case of using Linux targets for Ansible/Kolla-Ansible, we have to ensure that we have the correct version of Ansible on our deployment host and the correct version of Python3 on the targets. This will greatly depend on which version of Kolla-Ansible you are using because Ansible "proper" sometimes "breaks" Kolla-Ansible functionality.20:00
r3ap3rThis is also why they have recommended minimums and maximums in the Docs. Just as long as you stay between the max and min versions of Python and Ansible in your deployment host and targets, you should come across minimum issues. I hope this helps you understand Kolla-Ansible a little better. ;-)20:00
