yedongcanHi, while Kolla integrate with external Ceph, I met an problem that Glance cann't connect to Ceph cluster, it said timeout. Anyone meet this prolem before?06:51
*** ricolin has quit IRC06:52
Tony31@yedongcan - you mean you installed ceph manually (not with kolla) ?06:59
yedongcan@Tony31: yes, in glance-api container, the ceph.conf and keyring file is glance:glance, and with 0644 right, is that right?07:02
Tony31I really do not know - I am trying to clarify the problem which you are facing. How did you install Ceph?07:03
yoctozeptomorning07:08
*** cah_link has quit IRC07:09
yedongcan@Tony31: Thanks, we use ceph-deploy.07:18
Tony31Morning07:18
Tony31@yedongcan - you will need to research how glance is integrated with ceph and then check that you have manually added the configuration to allow it.07:20
Tony31@yoctozepto - could I chat to you about designate? Maybe once you've had coffee? :)07:20
yoctozeptoTony31: having one now, busy day today and I am no designate expert :-)07:21
Tony31@yoctozepto - I think that should probably be ok as it's more about kolla/designate rather than designate itself (I think)07:22
yoctozeptoTony31: then let's try in channel and we'll do our best ("we" is just "me" atm but it always grows)07:23
Tony31@yoctozepto But first how was your weekend?07:23
yoctozeptoTony31: no comment :-) totally not feeling refreshed; how about yours? I sincerely hope it was much better07:24
yoctozeptoPhD kills people, it's proven :P07:25
Tony31@yoctozepto ah that sounds like you were busy :) hope your day today is easy. For me, I tried to balance self time with relationship time and I probably didn't allocate enough to the relationship time 🙈07:25
Tony31@yoctozepto - ah PhD, I wish you all the best with that :)07:26
yoctozeptoTony31: today is busy as well, tomorrow will be lighter; thank you07:27
Tony31@yoctozepto - For Designate, I mentioned in here on Friday (http://eavesdrop.openstack.org/irclogs/%23openstack-kolla/%23openstack-kolla.2020-03-06.log.html) what I was seeing after the kolla designate installation. Well further to that, I was researching and digging around over the weekend and today I decided to try and delete those entries that are showing with project ID "00000000000000000". Well after doing that, all is07:29
Tony31working now - I can assign floating IP's and there is no error generated and the same when removing. Also the floating ip is actually functioning whereas previously (before deleting as mentioned) the floating IP got assigned, but there was an error that it was not assigned. The DNS was created but I couldnt ping the instance (because the ip not actually assigned).07:29
Tony31@yoctozepto - so to summarise:07:30
Tony31@yoctozepto pool was not created (config files had different ID to what was seen when running designate-manage command) and then 2nd, running openstack command to show zones showed there was a zone created before I created any zone and the project ID was all zeros07:30
Tony31@yoctozepto to resolve the issue, I deleted the created zone and imported the yaml. Then back-tracked and added the new ID to the config files. 2nd, I deleted the zone with all zero's project ID and created my own.07:31
yoctozeptoTony31: very weird, could be a bug in k-a07:32
Tony31I did try removing and re-installing but the same was seen07:32
yoctozeptoTony31: if you were so kind as to report it (launchpad k-a)07:32
yoctozeptoTony31: we don't run CI with designate so could be in some awry state07:32
Tony31@yoctozepto - ah ok then. bug is ok :) Do you have a link for the launchpad?07:32
yoctozeptoTony31: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kolla-ansible07:32
Tony31I also wanted to ask what is the purpose of doing the designate-sink.conf described here: https://docs.openstack.org/kolla-ansible/latest/reference/networking/designate-guide.html07:33
Tony31thank you07:33
yoctozeptoworry not, we (I) are working on extending our CI testing07:33
yoctozeptoso should be better prepared for new users07:33
yoctozepto(well, old users too, but those are already "converted" :D )07:34
Tony31@yoctozepto my only issue is that (as you may recall) I am using kayobe (although I think it's the same install as kolla underneath)07:34
yoctozeptoTony31: blame kayobe only if it misassigns host roles/networks07:35
yoctozeptoother stuff should be k-a07:35
yoctozeptowell, kayobe could break something but it would be more... hmm... spectacular? ;D07:35
Tony31@yoctozepto - thanks for that 🙂07:36
Tony31that is really helpful07:36
yoctozeptoyw07:36
Tony31@yoctozepto - anyway, issues like this are fun because it forces me to dig really deep into unknown territory (for me) and find out a lot of stuff so I can figure out why it's not working 🙂07:37

r3ap3rGood morning. I ran a kolla-ansible deploy on Friday 6 March and didn't get around to doing a "functions check" until late Sunday 8 March. Everything works so far with the exception of launching instances. Ran down the issue to libvirtd not being installed on my CenOS 7 host. Tried tracing where Kolla does the libvirtd install for kvm on CentOS and I'm not finding it anywhere. I assumed it would get installed14:15
r3ap3rwith the "bootstrap-servers" playbooks but maybe not? My question is would it be fine if I installed libvirtd by hand or should I be using a specific kolla-ansible playbook? Thanks.14:15

r3ap3rmgoddard: I will take a look and report back. I do have centralized logging enabled and in Kibana the error said  something along the lines of "no host available with resource kvm". The screenshot is on another laptop and I'm paraphrasing but I will still take a look. Thanks.14:27

r3ap3rYeah, I think I need to recheck the bios. We had a power outage last Thursday if memory serves? Maybe it got reset?16:51

openstackgerritMerged openstack/kolla master: CentOS 8: Add upgrade job  https://review.opendev.org/71161517:00
generalfuzzmgoddard: sorry, not familiar with that issue. However, self-signed certificates use IP address for validation (so it uses the relevant VIP address). I used fqdn when validating certificates created using let's encrypt.17:06
sorin-mihaigeneralfuzz, can you provide more details about how you used letsencrypt?17:08

mnasiadkayeah, removing is awesome17:10
r3ap3rmgoddard: So yeah, I need to go kick myself for a little while. So apparently after the power loss and the host not being properly "rebooted" after coming back up it caused some unknown issue with something somewhere. I didn't take it back to the basics and try rebooting once I had verified that all of the host virtualization requirements were there. A+ MAN, DON'T FORGET THE A+ LEVEL STUFF!! I just successfully17:10
r3ap3rspun up one of my Admin Workstation instances and everything went smooth. Thank you for working through that with me. ;-D17:10
mgoddardr3ap3r: np, glad to hear it's working17:11

mgoddardiniazi: yes17:40
kplantmgoddard: ah17:40
hrwyoctozepto: then go for ^^17:41
iniazidpdk wasn't working back in stein or pike days.  or is the binary just not available, and I can build it?17:41
mgoddardiniazi: you can try. You'd need to remove it from the list of unbuildable images in kolla/image/build.py17:42
mgoddardiniazi: then maybe make some changes to the dockerfile17:42
hrwdpdk... I am glad that no longer have to know what it is17:42
iniaziheh.  dpdk would be nicer (hw acceleration i think)... but i'm going to disable & rerun pull.17:43
hrwfun with networking starts when your network cards run full operating system too17:43
yoctozeptoanyone said infiniband? :-)17:45
iniaziwhich reminds me of a process question; so I'm setting up docker private registry; am I supposed to first not have private registry configured in globals.yml and pull.  afterwards tag & push the images to private registry?   or will kolla-ansible do that for me somehow?17:45
yoctozeptohrw: yeah, I will make sure this one does not go unnoticed :D17:45
yoctozeptoiniazi: it's recommended to build images yourself17:46
iniazioh ok.  i did build with stein; but couldn't remember if I just did it that way or was a recommended way.  ok. i'll try that thanks17:47
hrwiniazi: you can 'build + push then k-a', you can 'copy + push then k-a'17:47
hrwiniazi: if you plan to keep deployment and then expand it then I would go with private registry and own tag for images. So any new machines added to deployment can get exactly same images. Simplifies upgrades17:49
hrwmgoddard: hm. I have to start renaming zuul jobs too17:50
mgoddardhrw: will be tricky across two repos17:51
mgoddardhrw: and switch from master-centos8 to master in publishing jobs17:51

iniazihrw: well in my case I will add more nodes later so would be nicer to use same working images.  are minor upgrades work well enough through manual build -> private registry  & then using k-a to deploy?  meaning if i use 'source' for install type17:53
