r3ap3rDoes the external network on openstack have to have dhcp disabled on that network?17:40
*** k_mouza has quit IRC17:42
r3ap3rI am reading that people setup the "external network" for VMs/Containers without dhcp enabled because Neutron handles that?17:42
noxoidthats the way i chose to do it17:45
noxoidif its a tenant network then neutron will run the dhcp service (if enabled). if the vm is directly attached to a vlan/flat then usually you enable a config drive to provide the vm with the ip17:46
noxoidi think you can also have the metadata service running on vlan/flat networks to allow the vm to fetch its ip but i havent tested it17:46
r3ap3rnoxiod: I'm trying to figure out why my flat network configuration isn't working out for me. I have tried several configuration adjustments and I just cannot hit the IP from my LAN. Networking within the "demo-net" work absolutely fine it is just the "public1" network that I cannot for the life of me get working right? I'm planning on doing a deep dive this weekend and converting my virtual AIO to a physical.17:49
* hrw out17:51
r3ap3rI have the Neutron extensions, changed the "init-runonce" Physical information to match my LAN and it will not route traffic through. If I look at the instance, the interface in question doesn't show the IP address shown in Horizon, it doesn't show an IP at all?17:51
r3ap3rhrw: later. :)17:52
*** tonythomas has joined #openstack-kolla17:52
noxoidif it doesnt have an ip then either it cant reach the dhcp server or there is no config drive attached17:53
noxoidmost likely anyways17:53
noxoidis dhcp enabled on the subnet the vm is using?17:54
r3ap3rYes, dhcp is enabled on the subnet the VM is using. What do you mean by "no config drive attached"? Not familiar with that ?17:55
noxoidconfig drives, in my case, provide vms with their network config when dhcp/metadata services are not available17:55
r3ap3rIs that like the "metadata" section when launching an Instance?17:56
noxoidnot really17:57
