lmcgannthe idea is that validate_security_status will make a call to the keylime verifier to get a status and then act upon it. The status that the verifier gives back will just be the most recent status attained. The idea behind the attest function is that it would trigger an attestation in that moment. Though I had been thinking about and looking into how 'attest' might work in keylime and the answer is it might not as it16:06
lmcgannmight bend too many workflows.16:06
dtantsurlmcgann: it may be my lack of background, but "trigger an attestation" does not sound any different from what you describe about validate_security_status :)16:07
rpittaulmcgann: my understanding is that validate_security_status will evaluate if running an attestation or not, while attest will trigger an attestation no matter what16:11
lmcgannas it stands, the validate_security_status would just perform a GET to the verifier, which would then just return the state. Here no attestation is ever done. The verifier would have done it some time in the past. Having only this method would require the controller to constantly poll the verifier to see that the status is ok. The attest function we thought might involve the controller talking to the agent to instruct it16:11
lmcgannto attest itself to the verifier. This would give us a super recent status. This idea was discussed way before with Julia but we all seemed skeptical it would really be possible.16:11
TheJulialmcgann: maybe, I _know_ there are some moc meetings next week and I think I'm already double booked for tuesday16:14

TheJuliabdodd: do you think https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/sushy/+/764229 will need backporting to any older releases?16:37
TheJuliano, I think there is some confusion, the thought was that inside the state machine we end up calling the agent16:38
TheJuliaand then if we're checking the validator, then we would just query it16:39
TheJuliaI'm not sure why the agent would post aything back in that case, unless we're trying to support just trusting it. If it is a quick operation, it could be a sync call and we could just wait on the connection for the results like the way many existing commands work in IPA16:39
