guilhermespgot you TheJulia . I was assuming it by https://docs.openstack.org/ironic/latest/admin/drivers/redfish.html#enabling-the-redfish-driver but i guess that is better explained afterwards here https://docs.openstack.org/ironic/latest/admin/drivers/redfish.html#virtual-media-boot16:20
dkingdtantsur: I noticed that in there is this line in agent.py which talks about deprecating the line: https://github.com/openstack/ironic-python-agent/blob/master/ironic_python_agent/agent.py#L263 I was wondering why that might need to be depricated, and it would potentially be removed or updated soon.16:22
TheJuliaheh, that is quite the note :)16:23

TheJuliaI guess it might be because of ipv4 use16:23
dtantsurgit blame might help :) I don't remember, sorry16:24
TheJuliaguilhermesp: yeah16:24
dkingI haven't looked too deeply into that code yet but it looks like that test is done before checking the api_url. I imagine that if that first check either weren't there, or only followed if the api_url failed, it would solve my problem.16:25

TheJuliaLast call for PTG items before I go and try to make a schedule16:37
dkingOn a separate note, I have a silly question. What exactly is the difference between Bifrost and Ironic? Am I right to say that Bifrost is Ironic configured to run independent of OpenStack?16:37
TheJuliadking: configured to run independently and also originally geared at allowing people to use ansible to do deployments16:38
TheJuliasince you could pass an inventory in and have that translate into machines powering up all from a playbook16:38

TheJuliadking: it kind of occurs to me that it is unlikely your hitting that path unless your setting an explicit configuration parameter in your ramdisk for which network interface to use16:52
dkingTheJulia: Not that I am aware. I'm adding in a clean step to update the BIOS, and that step is set to request a reboot. The actual hardware manager doesn't really set or even check any node or interface settings. But I'm assuming the BIOS update probably changes the order of the NICs, or at least, that's my guess.16:54

dkingAnother off topic question... I asked this before, but I wanted to be very certain. We have nodes that are discovered after they PXE boot into inspection which end up in enroll. Is there no way that Ironic could just then automatically move those to manageable and then to active without requiring those requests to come in from third party API calls?17:08
dkingIt seems to me that there's no information needed more than what a server has in enroll to move it to manageable, and then to active, and I imagine that most use cases ideally don't want to see servers sitting in any of those other states. So, I imagine there could be some common mechanism used to transition them? Or do folks just write their own crons? Or do folks just usually not automate adding baremetal nodes?17:12

lmcgannTheJulia: I am trying to deploy the keylime agent using the ansible playbook they provide for doing this setup. I am trying to use this playbook to get around having to modify the ramdisk significantly, but would it be acceptable to require all keylime setups to go through ansible and require a deploy interface that supports ansible?17:31

TheJuliaPTG schedule posted to https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/ironic-wallaby-ptg23:25
TheJuliadking: ahh, that could be. Seems weird but if it is something like UEFI versus LegacyBios I could really see some major differences in the way things are percieved and processed for boot order23:26
TheJuliadking: regarding automatically moving the states along. Not at present in the state machine. It would be an interesting topic if your joining us at the PTG in the following week?23:27
TheJuliadking: to move to managable, power control information is needed, I know NobodyCam did some automation around adding baremetal nodes but I don't think he has ever really talked about specifics.23:28
