patchbotpatch 489598 - ironic (stable/ocata) - Removes agent mixin from oneview drivers13:32
TheJuliaricardoas: so, you can back port them.  The most recently committed copy on a branch will be the displayed version built off master13:32
dtantsur|busymorning TheJulia13:32
ricardoasthe release note says it is a ¨feature¨ but for this branch it fits more on a bug fix category13:32
TheJuliaricardoas: except that is a feature :(13:32
dtantsur|busyricardoas: generally, you should not modify patches you backport13:32

*** baoli has joined #openstack-ironic13:35
dtantsur|busybut patches are only modified to make sure they pass the CI (and ofc to fix conflicts), I don't remember any other valid reasons13:36
ricardoasok... I guess I should leave it as it is then13:37
TheJuliaThere will be one interesting thing that comes out of this past cycle. We will see how many people build latest off of a branch, just major versions, or something in between13:38
TheJuliaricardoas: Likely a good idea13:38
ricardoasthanks, dtantsur|busy TheJulia!13:38
dtantsur|busyTheJulia: our distribution pulls from branches from time to time (both RDO and RHOS)13:39

crushilTheJulia, For https://review.openstack.org/#/c/476922/, we are planning to leverage IPA deploy for this release. For the next release, we will have a custom deploy. I need to modify the spec to reflect that13:45

TheJuliacrushil: I kind of gathered that, but yeah, clarity on that might be be helpful for others.13:46

TheJuliacrushil: a follow-up spec would be good for a custom deploy interface.  It has actually been on my mind recently since I read the network switch deployment spec and the sensible driver spec, so it would be interesting to see how what you come up with.13:50
openstackgerritRuby Loo proposed openstack/ironic master: ironic-dbsync: check object versions  https://review.openstack.org/49770313:51
crushilTheJulia, Makes sense as this is a unique scenario. It's similar to OneView based on the code (haven't tested OneView on my end). But, we're planning to do that in Rocky as the pieces from XClarity are not well defined and need to be addressed before we propose something in Ironic.13:53

rloothx TheJulia!13:56
TheJuliacrushil: It is unique, but I guess i'm largely curious about maintaining cleaning consistency  of behavior, unless there is an equivalent alternative.  And we will be having a discussion for what is a deployment at the ptg where will hopefully kind of raise some of these questions and work some of them out perspective wise with-in the community.13:57
TheJuliacrushil: it is good you reminded me of oneview, since they also have a thing that they could do13:58
sambettsTheJulia: was that bradjones' network switch deployment spec??13:59
TheJuliaI think someone else14:00

fellypefcaTheJulia In discussions with the oneview team, we're not too keen to keep python-oneviewclient as a tiny wrapper arround hpOneView-client..18:19
fellypefcaTheJulia We basically have three patches. This one (https://review.openstack.org/#/c/468129/) to introduce the new client, this one(https://review.openstack.org/#/c/466872/) that updates the driver calls to new client.18:19

osdevdoes ironic multi-tenant network support, to separate provisioning from tenant network,  require integration with a TOR switch?  Or can be implemented with just neutron integration?18:37
TheJuliaosdev: TOR integration via a neutron ml2 module. otherwise your nodes will essentially, or most likely need to be configured to share the same physical broadcast domain and thus are no longer separated.18:39
fellypefcaTheJulia We understand that, but we also know that hpOneView is the recommended python client to access OneView's REST API. And maintaining python-oneviewclient as a tiny wrapper will slow down things for us, as we will need to add delegations for each operation it provides :/18:40

snswindHi I have a few questions, is there a way to rebuild an ironic node once it goes into "error" and Maintanence=True state ?20:48
snswindHow do i bring this node back to available state if I have resolved the issue ?20:48
snswindSorry am new to ironic and still figuring things out20:48
NobodyCamsnswind: you'll need to `ironic node-set-maintance <node> false` then `ironic node-set-provision-state <node> <state>`20:51
nicodemosif youre talking about error state, you need to delete the instance, wait the cleaning and then the node will be in available20:52
dtrainoron and off both work via ironic node-set-power-state.  the node was originally in an off state.  setting it to on with node-set-power-state, followed by reboot, doesn't power the node back on.  i fo see something extra this time:   LoopingCallTimeOut: Looping call timed out after 12.92 seconds20:52
dtrainorI'll post logs of the whole introspection process20:52
nicodemossnswind: this may help: https://docs.openstack.org/ironic/latest/_images/states.svg20:52

TheJuliadtrainor: that really sounds like something is fishy with the bmc... what is the hardware your using?20:54

dtrainorTheJulia, like I said it's a virtualized environment on a platform called Ravello.  The virtual bmc has been pretty solid so far in other environments, though.  What kind of "fishy" might you suspect?  Any clues here might reveal something otherwise previously unseen.20:56

snswinHi, not sure if anyone is still online, but I am having issues booting up baremetal node, with PXE22:24
snswinafter nova-boot, it boots up, gets a DHCP response, then times out when it comes to TFTP22:24
snswinI'm using PXE_boot, not iPXE, or UEFI, and followed the instructions from the openstack PXE boot page ... but looks like they are not sufficient..Anybody able to assist with that here ? :)22:25
poojasnswin: Check syslog on the ironic-conductor node and see if tftp server was started.. also check the tftp map-file if you see 'file not found' errors22:26
*** dsneddon has quit IRC22:26
snswinpooja: initially i only see the xinetd process running, is it ironic that starts the tftpd process ? Or should i manually start it ?22:29
snswinpooja: I also didnt understand the purpose of the "map-file" , it just has these lines "re ^(/tftpboot/) /tftpboot/\2 " based on the instructions here https://docs.openstack.org/ironic/latest/install/configure-pxe.html22:31
snswinpooja: Is the map file a log file or something ?22:31
poojaironic starts the tftp server using systemd and the map-file is passed as an option to the systemd unit.22:32

snswinpooja: Yeah im using Centos7, I'll check for logs in /var/log/messages , Btw another question, I assigned my tftp-server=$IP, as a static IP on the same provate subnet as I'm trying to boot the baremetal host (over a flat network)22:39
*** yangyapeng has quit IRC22:39
snswinpooja: Is that the right thing to do? Should i assign a tftp-server a static IP on that same subnet ? or let ironic handle that ?22:39
TheJuliapooja: mispmatched IPA/ironic version maybe?22:39
TheJuliasnswin: is there any reason your not letting neutron do it for you? or is neutron not managing your dhcp?22:42
openstackgerritJulia Kreger proposed openstack/bifrost master: Add LLDP discovery for IPA/Inspector  https://review.openstack.org/49897222:42
poojaTheJulia: actually it turned out be a nginx proxy translating a 301 redirect incorrectly and hence ironic-api was throwing a 405 for GET method. I fixed the api_url in IPA to use https and that resolved the issue. Thanks!22:47
poojasnswin: The conductor node in my case doesn't have an IP for the interface on flat provisioning network since it is added to an OVS bridge. So I ended up using my mgmt vlan IP on conductor node for TFTP.22:50
poojaTheJulia: does the sound correct? I had to remove the IP on the interface after adding it to OVS bridge, so cannot use that for TFTP22:51
poojas/does the sound correct/does that sound correct22:51
*** crushil has quit IRC22:56
TheJuliapooja: not really, whatever ip the conductor is using needs to be reacahble and if neutron is serving dhcp then it should just be leto point to the conductor for tftp22:58
openstackgerritRuby Loo proposed openstack/ironic master: [contributor docs] ironic -> OSC baremetal CLI  https://review.openstack.org/49898223:00
snswinpooja: Yeah i have a flat network interface added to the OVs bridge, I wasn't sure if neutron would assign it an IP or not, or if it will assign the same IP within the CIDR that i want to assign to my baremetal host,23:01
snswinTheJulia: neutron is managing my DHCP, but I'm not sure how its manging the tftp-server23:01

poojaAs soon as I added that interface to OVS bridge, I was not able to ping using that IP so had to use another mgmt network interface on conductor node.23:10
poojaAlso a different question: What HardwardManager does the pxe_ipmitool expect for in-band cleaning? I am getting this error - 'Error performing clean_step erase_devices: No HardwareManager found to handle method: Could not find method: erase_block_device''23:12

TheJuliapooja: think of it this way, there is the dhcp namespace that gets an ip address. the dhcp server says "go talk to this server"23:19
TheJuliapooja: that is built in to ipa, sounds like you have a mismatch between IPA and ironic23:20
