sambettsShrews: 3.2.1 is what nodepool --version just have me, I think ansible-role-nodepool installed from the git repo12:36
sambettss/have/gave12:36
Shrewssambetts: you must be running an unreleased version from git. either way, we haven't seen problems like that for a while (some bugs in earlier versions that could have caused that)12:38
Shrewssambetts: there should be enough info in the launcher logs to figure out what is happening12:39
sambettsShrews: thats whats kind of weird there were no errors in the laucher logs, I did see one in the launcher journal logs which seemed to be a kazoo communication error12:40
sambettsbut zookeeper looks fine and is running on the same server :/12:40
*** jcoufal has quit IRC12:41
Shrewssambetts: did it resume operations after the zk error? zk errors happen on occasion, especially if you only have a 1 node cluster12:41

sambettsfor other jobs12:42
Shrewssambetts: well that's normal communication (only a single zk connection per launcher)12:43
Shrewssambetts: you don't want to just look for errors. look to see if the launcher is "paused" at any point12:44

Shrewsif it never recovers from the pause, then that's the thing you'd need to track down12:45

*** dmellado has joined #openstack-infra12:50
sambettsShrews: and because of the request to zuul job preallocated that seems to happen even though nodepool was able to create other ready nodes ok they didn't get given to the zuul jobs in the queue so were basically deadlocked against a locked nodepool node12:50
Shrewssambetts: are you sure zuul didn't have them locked?12:53
sambettsShrews: the requests were never satified in the nodepool request-list and the nodes never went into in-use12:54
sambettsShrews: as soon as I restarted the nodepool launcher all the locked nodes unlocked and nodepool was able to satify the requests and zuul picked up up from where it was12:55
Shrewssambetts: we have seen cases where zuul would be assigned nodes properly, but zuul never changed them to in-use or removed the request12:55
Shrewsah, well if you didn't restart zuul, problem is in the launcher12:56

corvusclarkb: since we use exim, and exim is turing complete, there's likely another option which isn't on there, which is to reject at SMTP time.21:19
corvusimo that's almost always better than a bounce21:19

corvus(doing that isn't impossible, it just requires a whole bunch of new plumbing in the script to handle generating index files with knowledge of where they're eventually going to be uploaded; right now we have separated concerns -- index generation doesn't know anythig about uploading)23:40
