mnasermordred: found it13:03
mnaser+F = "Allow operators in other channels to forward clients to this channel, without requiring ops in the target channel."13:03
mnaser+f = Takes a channel name as a parameter. Users who cannot join the channel (because of +i, +j, +r, see below) are instead sent to the given channel. Clients are notified when the forward takes effect.  An operator can set mode +f #channel2 only if they are an op in #channel2 or if #channel2 has mode +F set (see below).13:03
funginote that +F is a denial of service waiting to happen. attackers find largeish channels with open ops or to which they can easily get ops access and then forward them at the +F enabled channel13:04
mnaserah13:05
fungii went through a while back and scrubbed stray +F from any of our official channels which had it (thankfully there were only a handful i found)13:05

odyssey4meHi folks - I just noticed a new 'promote' pipeline in zuul. What's that all about?17:02
odyssey4meOther than the description given on the page of course.17:02
corvusodyssey4me: i haven't finished building any jobs which use it yet, but the idea is that a gate job could upload something to logs.openstack.org and then a promote job could publish that, instead of rebuilding the thing in post.17:03
*** derekh has quit IRC17:03

odyssey4mecorvus: ah, awesome - so there is potential to actually build some sort of artifacts in jobs, then move those over to tarballs.o.o/docs.o.o/<insert storage space here> through some sort of promotion process17:05
odyssey4meI was kinda thinking of doing that with a release pipeline job.17:06
*** janki has joined #openstack-infra17:06
corvusodyssey4me: yep.  the idea of promote is that since it runs on change-merged, it can find the artifact generated by that change and promote it.  note, however, that the git repo state in 'gate' doesn't exactly correspond to the git repo state after the change is merged.  the content should be the same, but the actual commits are different.  so an artifact that must be traceably derived from the17:08
corvusrepo isn't a good choice for this -- it should be built in post instead.17:08
corvusodyssey4me: for a simple example: doc builds should be fine in promote (that was going to be my first example).17:09
corvussomething that's gpg-signed and should be tracable to a commit hash in the git repo, probably not a good choice17:10
corvusthere are ways we can improve that in the future, but they involve changing zuul to push its own commits when gating, rather that having gerrit perform the merge.17:10
corvus(when we do that, the git commit used in the gate build *will* be the one that lands in the git repo)17:10
odyssey4meit'll be interesting to see the use-cases that this is useful for - nice to have a new option, but I guess it'll need some time to figure out how best to use it17:11
corvusyeah, i intend to continue to push on it, but it's dropped to about #4 in my list as of this morning.  may be a few weeks before i can get back to it.17:12
clarkbfungi: scas on https://review.openstack.org/#/c/585471/3 I guess we don't need to do the zuul project list udpate in that change beacuse this is more similar to a new project rather than renaming an active project?17:12

clarkbdansmith: if you don't have it set up to auto indentify as well I would expect that to be the case17:15
dansmithclarkb: it does auto-identify, but it doesn't always do the right thing after a netsplit,17:16
clarkbmordred: what is the story on https://review.openstack.org/#/c/555783/ ? is that a project rename we want? it isn't listed on the wiki17:16
dansmithI think because nickserv across the netsplit may drop state and so you look un-authed to the one that wins17:16
mordredclarkb: that project rename already happened17:20
fungiodyssey4me: one of the use cases i keep hearing about is that projects which build images in their jobs want to be able to run tests against and validate those exact images before merging the corresponding change but _then_ make sure that the image which was built and tested is exactly the one which gets published rather than publishing something which is rebuilt after merge and hoping it's identical17:20

clarkbfungi: do you recall what the new ordering proposed at https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/project-renames-2018-03-23 should look like? fungiyeah, i think the danger window for zuul is between when we merge the change and when we run the ansible playbook17:36

*** eharney has quit IRC19:26
clarkbmordred: that seems basically equivalent to the current system of just writing a groups file?19:27
mordredclarkb: yes - the main difference is that it's ready directly by ansible - whereas he current groups file has to be expanded by our helper script19:27
clarkbah19:27
clarkbmordred: for the openstack plugin wasn't the name changed because openstack conlfict with openstack sdk imports?19:28
mordredclarkb: no - that was for the old openstack inventory script19:28
mordredthe new openstack plugin lives at ansible.plugins.inventory.openstack19:29
mordredso doesn't get screwed up with import paths19:29
clarkbwouldn't it have the same problem? I guess you just can't use relative imports19:29
mordredyeah - it's working fine for me19:31

mordredclarkb: that's with that config, with the emergency file copied from puppetmaster and the openstack.yaml and groups.yaml files in place19:38

mordredrm_work, clarkb: I believe that we can set up federated identity for the local users for our home server - so logging in with openstackid to log in to our home server, for instance ... doing that would not prevent users connected to other homeservers from sending messages to channels or users hosted on our home server21:24

clarkbwoo topic:puppet-4 is quite short now (at least compared to what it once was), thank you for the help there23:33
corvusianw: yeah, i think that would be helpful23:37
corvusthe mlock +f thing is tricky though -- you have to be an op in the target channel to set it.  we might need special handling for #openstack-unregistered23:38
corvus(like, have accessbot join #openstack-unregistered, op itself, then set mlocks)23:38
clarkbcorvus: not good enough to just have the ability to be op I guess?23:39
pleia2clarkb, mordred: looks like the pw I have works, but I don't have access to my gpg key at the moment to encrypt a file, other thoughts on how to share?23:39
clarkbpleia2: mordred: we can probably risk sending it in the clear if we reset it right away? fungi might not care for that idea thoug h:P23:40
clarkbpleia2: also it isn't a rush if we want to wait for gpg key to be available23:40
pleia2won't be until next week23:40
clarkbwe can probably wait that long23:41
pleia2ok, just remind me if I forget :)23:41
pleia2(and I am logged in, I can do a quick logo swap if I have the file)23:41

pleia2sorry for not adding it to the password store back in the day, that seems unlike me /o\23:44

fungilooks like it's using infra-root@openstack.org anyway, so we could have reset it ourselves if we'd cared23:45
