mordredShrews: well.... it kinda depends00:30
mordredShrews: if the user has caching enabled, list/search should be more efficient, because the second and subsequent gets are going to be working on the cached list00:31
mordredShrews: BUT - if caching is disabled, the direct get could be more efficient00:32
mordredhowever, even that will be more slower if we still require things like delete to do a get first no matter what even if yo have an id00:32

flip214jhesketh: yolanda: thanks for the ping.08:52
yolandawhat do you suggest here to avoid it, do you have some idea?08:52
flip214I am registered as two users with the same email address - now I'd like one of these changed, because my commits show up as one user but interactively I'm the other on review.08:53
jheskethyolanda: right, so the problem is that they enter the same integrated change queue... it's not hurting the tests, just less optimal than testing and merging separately?08:53
yolandayes, super less optimal. Because some branches are doing some heavy tests, on baremetal. And another branches just need small tests, on nodepool slaves. So this is causing fastest ones to be waiting in gate queue for long time08:54
yolandai talked with clarkb about that, he told this way of adding tests together, without caring about the branch, is done on purpose, to test branch upgrades08:55
jheskethright, so the branch does still matter if stable breaks the gate queue due to upgrades breaking08:56

yolandajhesketh, and can this feature be skipped somehow?08:56

jheskethyolanda: you could force certain jobs into a named queue... I'd have to check if zuul still calculates a shared queue or takes it as authoritive08:57
jheskethflip214: umm, maybe... I haven't done it before so not really sure sorry... where abouts?08:57
yolandajhesketh, i've done it downstream, but i cannot access to the instance. I can assist you if you need08:58
*** dizquierdo has quit IRC08:59
jheskethyolanda: so http://docs.openstack.org/infra/zuul/zuul.html#jobs reads like zuul will still match off the job name. The queue name is purely aesthetic08:59
yolandajhesketh, so bad news for us08:59
jheskethyolanda: you could give the jobs against different branches unique names so they create their own queues09:00

yolandajhesketh. I need job a and b to be gated together for branch1. But i need that they are not gated for branch2. As soon as a i add same job for branch1 of projects a and b, any job for project a, indepenently of the branch, will be gated together with b09:11
yolandaand if i don't add the same job, i cannot gate together projects a and b for branch109:12

jheskethyolanda: I think so... so why not create an identical job for branch2 that has a different name?09:14
yolandajhesketh, the algorithm for zuul will just collect all jobs together for all the branches for project a, and for project b, and do an union09:15
yolandaso it will be together as long as they share at least one job , that happens for branch109:15

yolandayes, that's the reality09:18
jheskethor that particular buildset09:18
yolandazuul consider jobs on the same queue as long as they share on job, don't considering the queues09:19
jheskethI think you mean projects09:20
jheskethbut okay09:20
yolandayes, projects, sorry09:20
jheskethI'd have to think about whether that is a bug or not...09:20
yolandajhesketh, for example we hit some problem with noop due to that last weeks09:21
yolandawe had projects with noop jobs for certain branches, other branches with jobs09:21
jheskethright, but once that reaches the top of the queue it'll merge quickly09:21
yolandathis caused all noop jobs to be gated together along real tests09:21
jheskethbut clarkb's point is still quite valid09:21
yolandajhesketh, but it you have a long gate queue, with long wait time, it's a blocker for these jobs09:21
jheskethif there is a relationship between projects, that should be maintained in a gate queue to ensure nothing has broken09:22
jheskethyolanda: what you could do for the other branch is put them into a different pipeline altogether09:22
jheskethyou could have multiple pipelines submitting (ie merging)09:22
yolandajhesketh, that's an option yes09:23

openstackgerritMerged openstack-infra/jenkins-job-builder: Update sphinx to be compatible with readthedocs.org  https://review.openstack.org/20761622:16
sridhar_raminfra-team: looking for some guidance .. I'm in the process of adding py27 jobs for tacker project. We haven't tried other related jobs like py34. Given this what is the best way to add py27 to check & gate pipelines ?  should I use "python-jobs" in the jenkins job and noop things like py34 or should I consider granularly adding specific tests to zuul/layout (like gate-tacker-python27).22:16

clarkbthis solves an immediate issue and mkaes your tests reliable22:21
krotscheckfungi: I'm going to check to see if /usr/local/etc works. It... might?22:21
fungisridhar_ram: if you think all the jobs listed in the python-jobs macro are working then add it. if you think only some are working then add those jobs explicitly to the check and gate pipelines. separately you can add the ones you suspect are non-working to just the check pipeline and add voting:false overrides for them22:21

rm_workbut containers isn't a fix for NOW, it's a fix for "next cycle"22:22
dougwigrm_work: what we can *not* do is make the integrated gate take too long or become unstable.22:22
rm_workwe can't just "turn on containers"22:22
bloganrm_work: i dont think anyone was everyone arguing it was an immediate solution22:22
rm_workwell, the discussion i had with clarkb was "why split the tests, and not just *turn on containers*"22:22
fungikrotscheck: the way i interpreted what you/they said, the /usr/bin/npm from the distro has an override setting prefix=/usr/local, so npm install npm@2 creates a /usr/local/bin/npm and _that_ expects to find a global config at /usr/local/etc/npmrc (because it's searching for {prefix}/etc/npmrc)22:22
rm_workso that was the context for why I said we can't just switch to containers from VMs22:23
jesusaurusclarkb: one issue with that is we still want to pin the version based on the version of elasticsearch22:23
rm_workit isn't just flipping a switch22:23
clarkbjesusaurus: oh, we can ensure a version then22:23
clarkbjesusaurus: rather than latest22:23
dougwigblogan, rm_work: i think we can move the details to -lbaas ?22:23
