clarkbfungi: its very strong and a bit tart. Not my favorite sake but it seems to be drinkable00:02
mordredkrotscheck: NOOOO! why??00:02
dstufftmordred: now adays if I can convince y'all to move away from requirements.txt and into setup.cfg and maybe spend some time so pbr becomes not a requirement to run a sdist then I might even be convinced to start using it00:02
krotscheckmordred: I can’t take credit for that, it was a refinement on Julia Child’s kitchen.00:02
mordredkrotscheck: we're going to credit you anyway00:02

krotscheckmordred: It’s a pretty neat hack, especially for NYC-scale apartments :)00:03
clarkbdstufft: how do you avoid it as a requirement to sdist? I thought that as the whole point00:03
mordredclarkb: we have thoughts00:03
jeblairmordred, fungi: you may be interested and not at all surprised to note that according to the most recent issue of "Distiller (tm)" magazine, new york, california, and washington recorded the highest increase in craft distilleries from 2012-201300:04
dstufftclarkb: well you wouldn't get the "use pip to install crap instead of setuptools" bit00:04
clarkbI mean at that point you don't need pbr anymore00:04
mordredclarkb: not as a requirement to _generate_ an sdist00:04
mordredclarkb: as a requirement to consume sdist tarballs00:04
krotscheckmordred: I’m on meds that don’t do well with Alcohol.00:04

krotscheckWhy, because we’re distillery snobs? :D00:05

openstackgerritTravis Tripp proposed openstack/requirements: Remove old deprecated xstatic angular packages  https://review.openstack.org/14509600:07
mordreddstufft: finish metadata 2.0 and we're there, right?00:07
dstufftmordred: metadata 2.0 and then sdist 2.0, but sdist 2.0 is mostly just "take this crap from metadata 2.0, stick it in a tarball"00:07
clarkbkrotscheck: if you want to give sake a try uwajimaya has koji that is useable but I don't think they have polished rice. I couldn't find any sake polished rice at least00:07
clarkbkrotscheck: but FH Steinbarts down here appears to get rice and koji from momokawa and resells that so my next attempt will involve a trip over there00:08
dstufftI haven't felt super motivated to dig into metadata 2.0 yet00:08
dstufftnick split everything up into like 4 different PEPs00:08
dstufftand I haven't read it yet since he's done that00:08

mordredsdague, kashyap, mpaolino: luckily, libvirt is a C library14:39
mordredwhich means that it's TOTALLY possible to install a new version of it on the system without breaking the distro installed one14:40
mordredso I don't think you need to think of it in terms of "overwriting" the distro libvirt14:40
kashyapmordred, Yes, also see the Daniel Berrange's comment  in Patch Set 7: Sep 29 5:33 PM14:40
* mordred goes to read14:40
kashyapI very much agree with that, as I'm one of those hypothetical users that Dan mentions.14:40
sdaguemordred: only if you then go an massively muck with devstack with lots of extra paths and invocations14:41
kashyapBut yea - I can appreciate DevStack developers perspective. Just wondering if there's a reasonable balance14:41
mordredsdague: you should totally be able to export 2 env vars and be done with it14:41
sdaguenope14:41
mordredall you need is PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, no?14:41
mordredand then possibly CFLAGS/CPPFLAGS/LDFLAGS if something is going to build a new copy of python-libvirt on top of that libvirt14:42
mordredof course, you could skip that madness for the purposes of this and add /usr/local/mylivirt/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig so that LD_LIBRARY_PATH is not needed14:42
anteayadhellmann: thank you14:43

mordred(keep in mind I have not read this patch - I'm just saying taht multiple versions of a C library is way less kludgy than with python)14:43
kashyap"If we use /usr/local then you can only easily install one version of libvirt/QEMU at a time per machine. When people are testing with non-distro versions, it is reasonable that they might want to have different versions on the same machine, eg to try to debug & identify behavioural differences between 2 versions of libvirt or QEMU."14:43
anteayatchaypo: I tend to think of our system as infra or infrastructure and external testing systems as CI14:44
anteayatchaypo: it confuses me when folks use CI to refer to what the infra team runs14:45
sdagueyeh, so please read the patch. Then also remember what happens when you are outside of the stack.sh script and actually trying to modify and start things (or upgrade things) without the env tampered with14:46
sdaguemost people completely forget - ok, so later that day, when you log in from a different terminal and all that export logic in stack.sh isn't there, what happens14:46

jheskethstaged changes don't matter in the long run22:24
funginibalizer: stopping the puppet agent doesn't help if you're not running it as a daemon, and we're not22:24
