Also when i create a floating ip , an "A" record gets created but when i boot a VM, no record is created for the vm ?13:32

Andrew_jeditimsim: I have read that chapter like 20-30 times by now and it helped me a lot but i found out that while setting it for keystone v3, we need some more parameters then described in the document.14:57
Andrew_jeditimsim: Now, i can see both "A" and "PTR" records for Floating IP but nova fixed ip records are not getting added. I am wondering whether it has something to do with any notify parameter in nova.conf14:58
timsimI don't think so. Pretty sure all that happens on the neutron side. Are you doing all the DNS name magic on the networks/ports?14:59

egonzalezHi, while creating an instace, the first rpc message received in designate-worker gives error due NONE action in message, the following messages works fine15:01
egonzalezany hint or idea?15:01
Andrew_jeditimsim: Yes. And creating a floating ip by specifying dns_domain and dns_name does create "A" and "PTR" records for that flaoting IP.15:06
*** EricGonczer_ has joined #openstack-dns15:08
Andrew_jeditimsim: FYI, the private network is non-shared network. I don't think that could be a problem15:09
Andrew_jeditimsim: One other thing, I am also using Ceilometer, not sure if Ceilometer is eating up all the notification15:11
openstackgerritOpenStack Proposal Bot proposed openstack/designate stable/ocata: Updated from global requirements  https://review.openstack.org/43623115:12
timsimUnless you're using sink, that shouldn't be a problem.15:14

timsimMy recommendation is just to read that chapter. That's what I would do. If it was broken then I guess it'd be time to go spelunking in neutron. Or see if it's making API calls at all to designate.15:49
Andrew_jediAlthough what surprise me is that i can see the call made to designate-api in the logs for floating ip, but there is not a single call for fixed ip in the designate logs15:49

mlavalleAndrew_jedi: please make sure you read this section: https://docs.openstack.org/ocata/networking-guide/config-dns-int.html#configuration-of-the-externally-accessible-network-for-use-case-116:55
Andrew_jedimlavalle: I dont understand this part "For network types VLAN, GRE, VXLAN or GENEVE, the segmentation ID must be outside the ranges assigned to tenant networks."16:59
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: let's say that in your /etc/neutron/plugins/ml2/ml2_conf.ini you have indicated that vlan are valid types for tenant networks, by setting: tenant_network_types = vxlan,vlan17:04
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: then. in the [ml2_type_vlan] section you would have something like this: network_vlan_ranges = physnet1:1000:199917:05
Andrew_jedimlavalle: yes, i do have that. vlan 51-53 for provider networks and vxlan for tenant networks.17:06
Andrew_jediand the network i am using is vxlan based private network17:06
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: this means that when a tenant creates a network of type vlan, that network will use a vlan tag id between 51 and 5317:07
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: ok, let's use the example of vxlan17:07
Andrew_jedimlavalle: cool !17:07
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: most likely in the [ml2_type_vxlan] section you have something like: vni_ranges = 1000:199917:08
mlavalleright?17:08
Andrew_jedimlavalle: Yep17:08
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: this means that if you want fixed ip addresses assigned to the ports you create on that network, that network vxlan vni miust be outside the range of 1000 to 199917:09
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: that is, if you want those addresses to be pushed to Designate17:10
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: and have A, AAAA and PTR records created for them17:10
Andrew_jedimlavalle: ohhhh, i see17:11
Andrew_jedimlavalle: so all i have to do is to create another private network with segmentation id outside of vni range defined in ml2.ini17:12
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: the rationale is that networks for whish you want to fixed addresses to Designate are "outside routable" and therefore are not created by normal tenants17:12
mlavallewhich^^^^17:12
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: in my dev environment I create such a network with: neutron net-create --provider:network_type=vxlan --provider:segmentation_id=2016 --shared --dns-domain $DESIGNATE_ZONE externally-routable-network17:14
Andrew_jedimlavalle: For a demo, i need to do this " nova boot ..." and the vm appears in designate records, this is why i am trying to add fixed ip to designate17:14
Andrew_jedimlavalle: great, thanks for sharing it, let me try this17:15
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: I suggest you re-use my vagrant environment: https://github.com/miguellavalle/allinonevagrant17:15
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: that vagrant environment leaves you ready to go17:16
mlavalleAndrew_jedi: of course, you may want to hack your own demo. In that case, my vagrant scripts might serve as a reference17:17
Andrew_jedimlavalle: thanks, this will be very helpful.17:22
