nihiliferone question regarding current codebase of designate - are backends (especially PowerDNS) used? I see that designate-central does only operations in storage14:32

timsimnihilifer: Yes. The backends plug into the Pool Manager service for creating and deleting (and sometimes updating), and updates are mostly handled via zone transfer with MiniDNS.14:33

The creation/deletion of records is handled via AXFR (zone transfer), so you create/delete the domain via whatever method is needed, and then the standard DNS protocol kicks in, Pool Manager tells MiniDNS to send a NOTIFY to the DNS server (https://github.com/openstack/designate/blob/master/designate/pool_manager/service.py#L374) which kicks of a full zone transfer, which transfers all of the records from Designate to14:37

timsimShould you need to do something other than that, the Agent exists to do that AXFR for you, and provide more control around how you interface with the backend (although it still only has CUD domain at the moment, you could go through the data and parse the records if you'd like)14:38
