agrebennikovhi there guys16:06
agrebennikovI have gesignate-api question16:06
agrebennikovI successfully set up all components, but now for any request to it I get 40416:06
agrebennikovwhat can it mean?16:06
timsimWhat kind of requests are you sending?16:07
timsimThe api runs on port 9001, perhaps you're forgetting to add that on?16:07
agrebennikovtimsim, sure, first of all I try to create the domain16:07
agrebennikovtimsim, 192.168.122.1 - - [07/Aug/2014 02:26:55] "POST /domains HTTP/1.1" 404 371 0.00121816:08
agrebennikovtimsim, so the api cat get the requests16:08
agrebennikovtimsim, but it doesn't tell how it wants to work on it16:08
agrebennikovtimsim, even in debug mode16:08
timsimIt may be that you're sending the request to 192.168.122.1:9001/domains when you need to send it to 192.168.122.1:9001/v1/domains (or v2/zones if you'd like to use the latest API)16:09
*** EricGonc_ is now known as EricGonczer16:10
agrebennikovtimsim, hm... yesterday I actually tried both version and they didn't want to work, but today with v1 it tries to communicate with keystone16:15
*** bandarji has joined #openstack-dns16:16
timsimRight, by default the middleware tries to communicate with keystone, you can change that so that no authentication is attempted.16:17
timsimIf you change this line in the config, that should ignore keystone: https://github.com/openstack/designate/blob/master/etc/designate/designate.conf.sample#L7916:17

*** zain has joined #openstack-dns18:03
agrebennikovtimsim, another question - I can see the domain has been created in the designate's db, but powerdns' database is still empty18:03
*** zain has quit IRC18:03
*** zain has joined #openstack-dns18:04
timsimIs PowerDNS the set backend in your configuration? https://github.com/openstack/designate/blob/master/etc/designate/designate.conf.sample#L4918:04
*** vinod1 has quit IRC18:05
agrebennikovtimsim, yep, service is running18:07
timsimThe API call would fail if it doesn't make it to the backend. Are you running PowerDNS on the same server?18:08
agrebennikovtimsim, sure18:09
agrebennikovtimsim, I see INFO designate.backend.impl_fake in the output of central18:09
agrebennikovis it ok?18:09
timsimThat probably means you're not using the powerdns backend, which you need here: https://github.com/openstack/designate/blob/master/etc/designate/designate.conf.sample#L49 (In your config)18:09
agrebennikovtimsim, oh, seems the problem is that backend=powerdns is specified in [service:agent] section18:11
*** vinod1 has joined #openstack-dns18:13
timsimYep, you need that in the central section.18:16

timsimagrebennikov: Shoot!19:54
*** darshan104 has quit IRC19:54
*** darshan104 has joined #openstack-dns19:55
agrebennikovtimsim, :D well, I created the domain and the server. When the VM has been spawned, central should add the record (as far as I understand)19:55
agrebennikovtimsim, instead, it says "DomainNotFound"19:55
timsimSo you've got VMs spawning from nova and you want them to add records automatically to designate?19:56
timsimOr, want records to be added?19:56
*** EricGonczer_ has quit IRC19:57
*** EricGonczer_ has joined #openstack-dns19:57
agrebennikovI mean designate itself gets the message successfully, but it can't create the record19:57
agrebennikovtimsim, do I have to specify the domain in the config file as well?19:58
timsimWhat's making the calls to add the record?19:58
*** darshan104 has quit IRC19:59
agrebennikovtimsim, nova-compute. Now I specified the domain-id from designate's database in the config file, but now it says "Backend: Unknown backend failure: DomainNotFound('No domain found',)"20:02
timsimSeems like it's not finding the domain...you're sure it's the same ID that you get from the API that nova knows about?20:03
agrebennikovtimsim, emm... I don't think so... I use api v2 without domains in nova, does it mean that we have to specify Keystone domain's id, not designate's one?20:06
timsimI haven't done what you're attempting so I can't be sure. But I would think you'd supply the UUID of the zone in designate for nova to create records on.20:07
*** bandarji has quit IRC20:07
*** EricGonczer_ has quit IRC20:10
agrebennikovtimsim, zone? not domain?20:10
timsimWell, it's the same. It's a domain in the database, depending on which version of the designate api you're using, /v1/domains /v2/zones will get you the same information. The uuid is the same, and that's what you'd need, I think.20:11
*** EricGonczer_ has joined #openstack-dns20:12
agrebennikovtimsim, sorry, there were a couple of domains created with "fake" backend20:18
timsimIt should still be able to create records on a domain with the fake backend, they just wouldn't resolve to anything.20:18
agrebennikovtimsim, so now the record has been created, but the trick is that A record looks like ""8 | 192-168-111-25.domain4.com | A    | 192.168.111.2520:18
agrebennikovtimsim, where is the real name of the vm?20:19
agrebennikovtimsim, I mean it called the vm by the ip instead of its name (in openstack)20:20
timsimHm. Good question. Designate will create the record with whatever it gets. So wherever the request to designate is going in is using that to create the record. So that's where I'd look.20:20
timsimSo just to be clear, you're using the designate-sink service with the nova handler?20:23
*** RaginBajin has quit IRC20:25
agrebennikovtimsim, yep20:26
agrebennikovtimsim, any other options? ;)20:27
timsimIt seems to me like that's the default behavior. You can always write your own notification handler or edit this one https://github.com/openstack/designate/blob/master/designate/notification_handler/base.py#L13320:28
agrebennikovtimsim, :/ ok))20:36
agrebennikovtimsim, I mean in my understanding it's not very useful to create such records, how do you think?20:37
timsimI'm not a 100% sure on that, mind you. Some of the folks who might know better aren't around right now.20:37
timsimI agree with you.20:37
timsimIt's possible that there's some piece that I don't understand presently that would make this better.20:38
agrebennikovtimsim, ok, I'l ask our guys to improve the mechanism a bit ;)20:39
agrebennikovtimsim, do you know how the sink component pushed data into central? does it extract specific fields from the message?20:53
timsimHeres the function: https://github.com/openstack/designate/blob/master/designate/notification_handler/base.py#L10920:54
timsimWhich calls this function: https://github.com/openstack/designate/blob/master/designate/central/service.py#L92820:55
