ianwclarkb/tonyb/fungi: not sure if you saw my thoughts on py36 deprecation @ https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/diskimage-builder/+/90109301:59
ianwthe short version is that i think we should probably put the opendev bionic jobs on pause, and no longer build new bionic images -- pending it's full removal01:59
ianwi think we can then go ahead and cut a final dib release that is known to support bionic, and drop py36 things from dib02:00
tonybianw: Thanks, that sounds sensible to me.03:05
clarkbI saw them (not sure if updated since). I mentioned maybe we could rely on something simpler like linting to cover py36 general compatibility. My concern with not building new images is that we would no longer be resilient to cloud failures or have the ability to add new clouds16:10
clarkbI don't think we need much to keep bionic builds working. Definitely less that what we've got today since that code doesn't change much. The biggest risk is likely to be adding some new code that is python3.7 or newer only16:11
clarkband maybe we just try to do our best and if we break it down the road we can decide at that point to either fix it or move on rather tahn deciding before anything actually stops working16:11
