ntpttrHey everyone, I'm working on a patch that will add a few flags ('is_public' and 'protected') to the upload-volume-to-image functionality, and I've been running into some strange results from the tempest-dsvm-full-ceph tests. Basically it seems to be expecting the type of 'is_public' to be a String and the type of 'protected' to be a Boolen, but I can't figure out where in the code these definitions are being made. Here is the error I14:22

zigoBTW, any updates on having a correct generator for cinder.conf.sample in Liberty?14:54

eharneyscottda: yeah, i guess that's true14:54
smcginniszigo: I still think we're missing something there.14:54

scottdaso it's confusing for the user, and QA is currently bombarding me with bugs.14:55
zigosmcginnis: I thought the plan was to include opts.py in git ...14:55
smcginniszigo: Because the sample file was never meant to be a working default config, as far as I know.14:55
jgriffiththat's always been why back compat in the client is SOOO important14:55
zigosmcginnis: That's one thing, but that, as often, I can figure it out and patch it after generation.14:55
jgriffithzigo: :)14:55
eharneysmcginnis: i think the discussion was more around being able to generate a default config at all, not so much having it work for the service14:55
scottdayes, we've documented the workaround "update your client"14:55
scottdaBut we don't want to ship the newer client.14:56
zigosmcginnis: The important bit for me, is that my resulting config file misses *many* options, and is 800 lines instead of 3000.14:56
smcginnisjgriffith, eharney: Seems to me this branching just causes confusion, and we should move ahead with backward compatible fixes on HEAD.14:56

zigosmcginnis: Not really, that, I can make it so only in Debian.14:57
zigoI just want *all* of the options as per what's done if using tox and venv.14:57

kevincarr1991eharney: I am actually getting a different error this time. When I try to mount the nfs using vers=3 I get a rpc-statd.service error19:34
kevincarr1991eharney: Will you be on irc tomorrow?19:34
eharneykevincarr1991: yes19:34
dulekgeguileo: Okay, I cannot find it in Cinder.19:35
dulekgeguileo: But it should be similar to how Nova's handling it: https://github.com/openstack/nova/blob/master/nova/scheduler/filters/compute_filter.py19:35
kevincarr1991eharney: OK I will try and get you the error file as soon as possible.19:35
dulekgeguileo: So it means that you're only disabling it from scheduling.19:35
dulekgeguileo: *And* you cannot disable a service other that c-vol. In Nova's disable works only for n-cpu.19:36
geguileodulek: That's what I'm worrying about now19:36
dulekgeguileo: Why?19:36
geguileodulek: I don't think we are disabling the c-vols19:36
* dulek is looking deeper into the code.19:37
dulekgeguileo: Okay, got it: https://github.com/openstack/cinder/blob/master/cinder/scheduler/host_manager.py#L45219:38
dulekgeguileo: So Nova's passing all the hosts into scheduler. We're passing only enabled ones.19:38

geguileodulek: Yeah, but we don't disable c-vol19:39
geguileodulek: That's what I'm worried19:39
geguileodulek: We only disabled scheduled operations19:39
geguileodulek: Direct operation will still work19:39
dulekgeguileo: Oh…19:40

*** tsekiyama has quit IRC19:40
dulekgeguileo: And there's the meaning of "disabled" is simply - no more VMs scheduled.19:41
dulekgeguileo: But disabled n-cpu is still listening and you can for example live-migrate VMs from it.19:41

geguileoBut the name...19:44
dulekgeguileo: Now the problem is - should we change it or leave it consistent with Nova?19:45

dulekgeguileo: Aaaah. That19:46

aorourkejgriffith, the only new config values I added for replication (outside of target device values) are replication_mode and replication_sync_period. Those need to be config values because  the same backend does not support multiple modes at the same time. If we used extra_specs for this, an admin could create a sync and async volume type against the same backend, which would not be valid in our case.20:12

jgriffithaorourke: how does a user type that in the type xxx set replication_enabled=??23:17
*** david-lyle has joined #openstack-cinder23:17
jgriffithaorourke: so you want users to have to type replication_enabled='<is> True'  ?23:18
jgriffithaorourke: I think  that really sucks23:19
jgriffith:(23:19
aorourkejgriffith, they already have to23:19
jgriffithbut ok23:19
jgriffithaorourke: they do for the stuff that you implemented23:19
jgriffithnothing else :)23:19

jgriffithmultiattach and I think CG are the only places we use that23:19
jgriffithnowhere else that I'm aware of23:19
aorourkejgriffith, in order for the scheduler to match and find a weighed host, the extra specs value has to be <is> True23:19
jgriffithaorourke: untrue, but it's fine... I can change it23:20
aorourkeif I change my replication_enabled value to just True, it failds to find a weighed host23:20
jgriffithaorourke: correct, currently that's correct23:20
jgriffithaorourke: there are plenty of alternatives...23:20
aorourkejgriffith, there are?23:20
*** gouthamr has joined #openstack-cinder23:20
jgriffithanyway, I will change it for you23:20
*** david-lyle has quit IRC23:21
jgriffithaorourke: yes, use ints, use strings etc23:21
aorourkejgriffith, in the extra specs? to enable replication, can replication_enabled be anything other than '<is> True'?23:21

aorourkejgriffith, to be clear, if there is another way other than setting replication_enabled to '<is> True',  that would be great to know. I think it is pretty strange you cannot set it as a bool directly.23:28
* jgriffith is late for homemade Cioopino!!!23:29
