Adri2000anyone else got problems with https://opendev.org/openstack/openstack-ansible/commit/ac28ad132922b582679c20c0f2346987c25bc98a on existing deployments? my backup file was more than 3G and contained more than 13k files, so I'm not sure how much time would be needed to run that tar command 13k times in a for loop :) so of course it's easy to workaround (e.g. delete/move the backup file),06:14

noonedeadpunkjrosser: regarding https://review.opendev.org/#/c/758029 - I'm wondering why we don't just use initial_cpu_allocation_ratio and etc?16:57
recycleheroI am chaning allocation ratios via api calls, command line and config. when I do a "GET" to placement api I get the aclue which I have set, but in horzion I only see the same values16:58
noonedeadpunkas that way we can we will allow to use placement as well without need to adjust variables?16:59
jrossernoonedeadpunk: i think that the issue is you can only do that if you don't specify the other vars16:59
jrosserbut recyclehero can confirm that as the reporter of needing to optionally remove those keys17:00
jrosserimho wierd decision in the nova code to give meaning to those being python 'None' which you can't ever express in the config file17:00
noonedeadpunkwell, it is. But anyway< even if we set these key, why not to use initial_cpu_allocation_ratio/initial_ram_allocation_ratio/initial_disk_allocation_ratio instead?17:01
jrosseroh you mean why not just switch to those17:01
noonedeadpunkyeah17:02
jrosserwell thats totally an option too17:02
noonedeadpunkout of docs it seems like more reasonable default that deployers will be able to override with placement as well?17:02
jrosseryes, though that does seem to be maybe troublesome from whats up there ^^^17:03
jrosserunclear if thats a horizon issue or what really17:03
noonedeadpunkwell horizon doesn't reflect ratios anyway17:04
recycleheroI think something get initliazed on the first deployment when I ahve used "cpu_allocation_ratio" s and now it cannot be changed and it deosnt go away with replaying the os-nova playbooks17:04
noonedeadpunkeven if they're set with cpu_allocation_ratio17:04
recycleheroin the db17:04
jrosserthis kind of isnt OSA specific really, we're just writing out some stuff to nova.conf, not the db17:05
noonedeadpunkthese ratios are stored only in nova-compute config so horizon had no chances in geting them17:05
noonedeadpunkand I believe they just didn't implement checking placement for them17:05
noonedeadpunkjrosser: well, the only real concern I have are overrides deployers made for ratios which could break deployment in case both cpu_allocation_ratio and initial_cpu_allocation_ratio will be provided17:07
recycleheroI am going to do a fresh deploy using jrosser patch. leaving cpu_allocation_ratio: '' and inital_cpu_allocation_ratio: 16 and hoping to see 128 as vcpu value in horizon hypervisor section17:07
jrosserrecyclehero: i think noonedeadpunk describes that horizon has no way to retrieve that ratio information?17:08
noonedeadpunkexactly17:08
recycleheroso what is the value they are showing in the hypervison section17:08
recyclehero?17:08
noonedeadpunkjust node resources - bare, without ratios17:08
recycleheroso you mean I can now go past the what is shown in horizon which is 8 vcpus and reach the number which I have set?17:09

noonedeadpunkrecyclehero: totally!17:10
recycleheronoonedeadpunk: can you please explain where this command gets its results and where does the actual scheduelr get its data17:11
noonedeadpunkjrosser: but again... `options are all set to None` is a requirement only when xxx_allocation_ratio are used. and if we just switch to initial_*_allocation_ratio we will cover both usecases?17:11
jrosserwe could change the nova.conf var that the existing defaults set17:12
jrosserwhich is maybe slightly confusing in the code?17:12
noonedeadpunkrecyclehero: well, it' better to ask #openstack-nova folks:) but from my understanding nova-compute provides capabilites once discovered17:12
jrosseror just change it completely to new vars with a release note to make it obvious something has changed17:12
