ChosSimbaOneHi. I was wondering if there is any way to ensure that once a openstack volume is deleted, the data is overwritten on ceph. It seems to me that ceph lazy deletes, and therefore data will still be distributed until new volumes overwrite the sectors.08:34
ebbexChosSimbaOne: Maybe use crypto on the volumes where that is a concern? https://docs.openstack.org/cinder/train/configuration/block-storage/volume-encryption.html08:38

noonedeadpunkebbex: I gues it still requires barbican though08:58
noonedeadpunkebbex: Oh, I mean I never heard of ceph being able to flush data after removal of rbd drive due to the way how rbd works08:59
noonedeadpunk(like it shares PGs)08:59
jrosseryes i think somewhere is needed for key storage08:59
jrosseri wonder if migration still works.....09:00
noonedeadpunkThat is good question...09:01
ChosSimbaOneBut isn't the (de)encryption handled by cinder, so data is written / deleted from ceph as normal? What we need it for is to provide a service where users can work on sensitive and gdpr data, where we can ensure that once the volume is deleted data cannot be restored from ceph, which i guess should be the case if the encryption key is deleted aswell from barbican.09:07
noonedeadpunkyeah, afaik ppl use that exactly to pass gdpr09:08
jrosserChosSimbaOne: i think cinder is just a service here - the attachment is still an rbd device?09:13
noonedeadpunkas key is in barbican I think nova should be capable of migrating drive....09:14
jrosserChosSimbaOne: let us know how you get on :)09:15
ChosSimbaOne@jrosser: yeah you are probably right. But cinder should just see a normal rbddevice as well as ceph and the kvm / nova host will handled the dercyption i guess.09:16
ChosSimbaOnewill do :-)09:16

jrosserwould be good to get some reviews on this https://review.opendev.org/#/c/724231/10:22
jrosserit costs is a ton if failed CI jobs for the EPEL gpg key right now10:22
noonedeadpunkI can recall ppl that were using this override and asking about it in irc...10:33
jrosseri guess we could undefine the value of that key and retain the old task to allow a custom key to be supplied10:37
noonedeadpunkI'm wondering if infra has some "mirror" for the gpg keys...10:38
noonedeadpunkas maybe we can use some "local" ones to decrease possibility of failure instead of carrying them with roles...10:39
jrosserno it is missing10:39
noonedeadpunkI see10:39
jrosserthey mirror the epel pacakges but not the key10:39
jrosseralternative is to modify the infra mirroring to include the key10:39
noonedeadpunkMaybe they don't mirror it due to some security reasons?10:40
jrosserwe also have some shared variables across the repo server and lxc roles like centos_epel_key and centos_epel_mirror just to make this more complicated10:41

dr6271attempting Install OSA (Train) Ansible Master WITHOUT LXC container (containers: is _meta: true) are there any guides or example for this . Cannot find anything searching online11:47
admin0dr6271, just curious why you are not using containers ?11:48
admin0dr6271, you have to override variables with is_metal: true for all services to install them on metal and not on controllers11:49
admin0also recommend to use a tag and not master11:50

jrosserhere is the guide https://docs.openstack.org/openstack-ansible/latest/user/aio/quickstart.html11:55
dr6271thanks for  that Will look at that appreciate it11:55
jrosserif you set the environment variable 'SCENARIO=aio_metal' you will get a no containers deployment11:55
jrosserbut there will be missing components becasue it is not possible currently to co-install everything without containers11:56
peeejayzjrosser: http://paste.openstack.org/show/792873/ does that help?11:56
jrosserjust be aware that an all-metal deployment is more complex than one using LXC, and i'd suggest having a really really good reason for not using the default configuration with containers11:56
jrosserand by more complex i mean you will probably need more nodes in a production deployment with particularly the loadbalancer on dedicated hosts11:57
