snadgethe test setup has 3 compute nodes.. i have a networking setup that basically mirrors the AIO setup.. ie, a br-vlan and a br-vxlan00:34
snadgejust using single interfaces, with those bridges obviously bridged off of them.. i guess I didn't see the need to overcomplicate the test setup00:34
snadgeredundancy isn't really important for a "test" environment.. unless you're specifically trying to test those things00:35
snadgemy experience is that I wouldn't use vsphere to do that.. but at work its there, and thats what the last guy did, and I was basically following in his footsteps00:35
snadgeof course, vmware has a commercial openstack platform that works with vsphere.. and I guess if you wanted to do anything serious with openstack, on vmware, that would most likely be the most optimal path to go down00:36
snadgewith the logic being.. if you've already invested money into the vmware ecosystem, and use it for other reasons, you're already under the mindset that you need to pay money for a proprietary platform and have it supported by a vendor.. then by extension, its easier to follow the mindset that you should use their openstack offering as well (if you need that)00:37
snadgeotherwise you find yourself in the unenviable position of annoying vmware people with openstack related questions, and vice versa ;)00:38
snadgeto clarify, im only really using vsphere to test a multi host OA deployment, with the convenience of being able to snapshot and restore quickly and tweak and test configuration changes, without having the additional overhead of using the real hardware, which has finicky remote management, really long boot times etc00:43
snadgeTLDR i have to get up off my chair and walk into the server room ;)00:43

CeeMacsnadge: yeah, totally agree. I have dedicated hardware for our production and staging environments but wanted to use vsphere for quick and dirty testbed rebuilds exactly for the reasons you say (easy deployment, snapshot and rollback). In terms of the esxi hosts themselves and the physical uplinks to the switches how is that set up? E.g do you have lag/ether channel config on the switch ports and teaming and07:34
CeeMacfailover on the vswitch configured for 'route based on ip hash', with dual physical up links? Or do you have plain trunk ports on the physical switch and 'route based on originating port id'? I have the latter and was wondering if that was causing my container network issue. I've had problems with garp in a different vsphere cluster where I had to switch everything up to the former setup, thought if you had a07:34
CeeMacworking config I could validate that assumption before spending hours hacking at the switch and esxi configs :D07:34
snadgethats actually a really good question, that I would have to ask the guy who set it up :)07:36
snadgeunfortunately I don't have full access to the networking side of vsphere, and have to ask him to do things which relate to that (plus my general lack of knowledge in the networking area doesn't really help either)07:37
snadgeso i understand the basics about tagged vlans, vxlan, bridging, firewalls etc.. but with respect to vsphere, almost no idea.. apart from those issues which I ran into, that I mentioned above07:37
snadgeand same with respect to physical switches.. i've heard of terms like spanning tree, so I can pretend to know what I'm talking about there07:38

CeeMacHahaha fair one :) I get to do all of that myself fortunately which makes life easier but also sometimes harder. If you get a chance to ask that would be great, if not I'll just roll my sleeves up and give it a test myself08:17
CeeMacWhen I get some free time :/08:18
