evrardjplike we don't have our specific scenarios anymore for galera and others?16:46

evrardjphow did the first one work? I am curious16:48
jrosseri'm still thinking we should have haproxy generally, because a mix of https & http is what everyone is doing in a real deploy, from AIO up16:48
jrosseri expect it connected to the wrong endpoint, which was http, and therefore it worked16:48
jrosserbut in real life that would have been https and fails16:48
evrardjpI see16:48
evrardjpI don't have the cycles to add haproxy to the metal job16:49
evrardjpbut I guess it's a question of whether we should do that or not16:49
evrardjp(in case not, what other job will we create to cover this use case?)16:49

jrossermnaser: if you already know what needs doing with the listening ports i may be able to give this a look17:15
mnaserguilhermesp: has a bunch of the stuff that we use, it's pretty much just listening to ansible_default_ipv4.address instead of 0.0.0.017:15
mnaserthe issue however when i tried bringing that up once was i was told that because of our fancy network stuff, that's not necessary the 'local ip'17:15
mnaserso there needs to be some introspection to determine the *real* management_ip17:15
mnaserwhich we actually do in the os_neutron role afaik17:16
mnaserjrosser: https://github.com/openstack/openstack-ansible/blob/master/playbooks/common-playbooks/neutron.yml#L29-L3217:17
mnasersomething similar to that i guess17:17
spateljrosser: i am still struggling with "rsyslog_client_all_log_files" condition17:20
spateljrosser: check this out - https://bugs.launchpad.net/openstack-ansible/+bug/164849017:23
openstackLaunchpad bug 1648490 in openstack-ansible "rsyslog_client: configuration file doesn't get written" [Undecided,Fix released] - Assigned to Logan V (loganv)17:23
mnaserspatel: contributions and fixes welcome :)17:25
mnaserlogan-: btw check out this work that cloudnull has been doing, it might be good in thinking how we wanna approach the whole smart sources -- https://review.opendev.org/#/c/669758/417:25
jrosserspatel: I’ve shown you where the co diction makes the task skipped, the best thing to do now is start adding debug to the ansible17:26
jrosserspatel: I’m not doing any rsyslog myself so don’t have an immediate thing to compare with17:26
spateli have very short time so thinking i can write own rsyslog module and push out to all container to get logs rolling out.17:27
spatelI have already spent enough time to debug octavia and lost 2 weeks :(17:28
spateli think i can live with some hack for now and later test more stuff when i have time. my customer waiting to launch and can't keep them on hold because of this syslog bug17:29
evrardjpmnaser: jrosser alternatively, we could just decide that for gates we override the interface <software> listens to17:29

spateljrosser: i think i found issue related rsyslog, if /var/log/<project>/ missing then rsyslog remote client won't get deploy18:14
jrosserRight, because it’s searching for log files18:14
spatelin short barbican didn't created /var/log/barbican/barbican.log file ( i am debugging why it didn't created logs file)18:14
jrosserBecause it probably all goes to the systemd journal18:15
spatelhmm18:15
spatelany clean way to turn it off ?18:15
jrosserYou’ll find that most of the useful stuff you need is in the journals18:16
jrosserAcross all the services18:16
spateli can see all logs going in journal  systemctl status barbican.service -l18:17
spatelwish in OSA we can pick which logging method we need instead of having both in place18:19
jrossercontributions welcome, as usual :)18:22
spateli have to now :)18:24
jamesdentonspatel if it helps, you can filter on service name like this: "journalctl -u cinder-api -f" == "tail -f /var/log/cinder/cinder-api.log"18:27
spateljamesdenton: i want rsyslog to pump my logs to my ELK18:28
spateljournalctl is great but new tool and very few people use at moment ( atleast in my company )18:29
jamesdentongotcha18:31
mnaserjrosser: what do you think if we started using systemd-journald for all of our service logging18:32
mnaseri feel like it would simplify a lot18:32
jrosserIt us right though that the logging is abut random across OSA18:32
jrossermnaser: that would be great18:32
jrosserLike bits of heat have no logging whatsoever right now18:33
jrosserSo this generally needs a tidy up18:33
mnaserya i feel like this would be a good thing18:33
mnasereliminate /openstack/log or whatever18:33
mnasereliminate /var/log/<service>18:33
mnasersetup journal logging for all services so you can just check their units18:33
mnaserplus there is some really neat things you can do18:33
mnaserhttps://docs.openstack.org/oslo.log/3.28.1/journal.html18:34
jrosserIt shouldnt be difficult to leverage the elk work to deploy just the beats and push to an existing elasticsearch18:34
mnaserhttps://docs.openstack.org/oslo.log/3.28.1/journal.html#extra-metadata18:34
mnaserthe metadata is so neat18:34
mnaserbecause it includes all these useful things like request id, projet id, etc18:34
mnaserand you can filter on it too18:34
mnaseri.e. in a metal aio journalctl REQUEST_ID=req-b1903300-77a8-401d-984c-8e7d17e4a15f18:34
mnaseryeah, and if elk picks up that extra metadata, it's super easy to capture that metadata and make filtering easier18:35
mnaser+ no more annoying silly multiline regex patterns18:35

spateli must be missed something somewhere19:57

spatelyes you need to add log_file = /var/log/magnum/magnum.log file in magnum.conf file19:57
spateli have found none of service has that log_file line anymore ( i believe this is because of systemd-journal )19:58
