evrardjpodyssey4me: why did you ask to add the tempestconf_git_repo into test-vars of osa-tests?10:12
evrardjpIt makes sense to me to define a default location in role's defaults/main.yml10:12
evrardjpoh yeah repo build still would built tempestconf at all time10:13
evrardjpwe could use a different naming convention, that would work too10:14
odyssey4mensmeds yeah, I think it's fairly common to override that - I think the defaults might have been good for times gone by, but now there are more services and more connections, so it may be time to revisit that default - if you figure out a good formula/value, please submit a patch!10:15
odyssey4meevrardjp same as for tempest, it won't use the git source unless that var is set, and the default in the role is not to set it so that pip is the default source10:17

CeeMachey jamesdenton i didn't but i have now.  i was pondering disconnecting one of the nics in the bond11:55
CeeMaci was going to ask, are you using veth interfaces for containers or macvlan?11:55
CeeMaci saw some blogs/articles where macvlan was preferred for vms and veth for physical11:55

*** jonher has joined #openstack-ansible12:07
CeeMacok, maybe it is a bond issue then.12:07
jamesdentonif i had to bet, that arp broadcast is coming back up the 'standby' interface from the vSwitch and polluting the mac table on the bridge12:07
CeeMacyeah, i was wondering the same12:07
*** fresta has joined #openstack-ansible12:07
CeeMacthinking about things a bit more last night, I didn't see this problem in my last build most likely because all of the containers were on the same host12:08
jamesdentonwell, and you probably weren't using a gateway for the container net, either?12:09
CeeMacindeed12:10
CeeMacok, so i'll try disconnecting one nic from the bond, then i'll try removing the bond12:10
jamesdentonk12:10
CeeMaci was mainly using bond to model how it would look if I built it on physical12:10
CeeMacas this is a rc run through12:10

CeeMaci'm starting to question my sanity again, because i have a storage network set up as a vlan on a seperate bond12:29

jamesdentonodyssey4me i just might have enough... :D15:07
odyssey4mejamesdenton note that you can remove elements of the MNAIO too - by turning some bits off, you can reduce it to just the basic compute kit15:08
jamesdentonyeah, i disabled the cinder and ceph pieces. i can probably get away with more, but it's ok. I had to bump the ssh timeout value since it's taking nearly 45 minutes to install the OS on these VMs.15:09
jamesdentonalso helps when you bump the governor from ondemand to performance... :(15:10
odyssey4mejamesdenton 'osa_enable_orchestration: false' will disable heat, 'osa_enable_object_storage: false' will disable swift - with those, you should only get the compute kit which should be enough15:10
jamesdentonwhere do glance images end up?15:10

spatelquick question on neutron17:23
jamesdentonspatel yes17:23
spatelI have added new public subnet in existing network in neutron but how do i test if its working?17:24
*** stuartgr has left #openstack-ansible17:24
spateli didn't see option to pick subnet when you build instance17:24
spateli build foo vm but its getting still old IP17:24
jamesdentonyou can try creating a port and specifying a fixed_ip from that subnet, then assign the port to the VM17:24
spatelhmm! let me see hold on17:25
*** thuydang has quit IRC17:25
spatelneutron port-create net1 --fixed-ip ip_address=192.168.2.40   ( is this the correct example right? )17:26
spatelchange net1 to my vlan17:26
jamesdentonlooks right17:26
spateldoing it..17:26
*** thuydang has joined #openstack-ansible17:29
spatelsweet! working...17:33
spatelso it will automatically assign IPs when old subnet will full right?17:34
spateljamesdenton: ^^17:34
jamesdentonyeah, pretty much17:35
jamesdentoni don't remember there being a lot of logic behind it. the DB returns eligible IP, and the UUID of the subnet is a factor (lowest wins). So if the new subnet had a UUID that was sorted (alpha) first, you might actually start consuming it immediately17:37
spatelhmm! as far as it work i don't care about anything else..17:41
spateljamesdenton: soon i am going to spin few VMs on rackspace account :) we need external machines17:42

spateljamesdenton: is ServiceNet in your cloud for your internal services?18:58
jamesdentonyeah, sort of.18:58
spatelis that dedicated to my instance or shared with other folks ?18:59
jamesdentonthe network itself may be shared, but you should not have connectivity to anyone else18:59
spatelokay!18:59
spateljamesdenton: in ethtool -i eth0 showing19:03
spateldriver: vif19:03
spatelis this just like virtio ?19:03
spatelin my cloud it showing "virtio"19:04
spatelXen :)19:05

jamesdentonxen, yep19:06
spateldidn't know you guys using Xen..19:06
spatelis it as good as kvm?19:07
mgariepyjamesdenton, do you have a patch for dynamic inventory script with ovn not having the container_interface in the br-privatenet and br-publicnet network ?19:13
mgariepyfrom https://docs.openstack.org/openstack-ansible-os_neutron/latest/app-ovn.html#openstack-ansible-user-variables19:13
jamesdentonAre you suggesting container_interface would be added automatically to the br-privatenet and br_publicnet bridges?19:14
mgariepynot sure, i'm trying to test it in a AIO setup haha19:14
mgariepyi might not get everything right. do you have a config for AIO setup somewhere ?19:15
jamesdentonOk. At this stage, you would have to add some kind of interface by hand, but those bridges would be setup for you via playbooks. I have https://review.openstack.org/#/c/623620/ and https://review.openstack.org/#/c/626594/ out there with a new 'network_interface' definition19:15
jamesdentoni don't think i have an AIO OVN config anymore, but i can put one together19:19
jamesdentonYou would have to handjam an interface into the bridge - not sure how br-vlan is plumbed in a normal linuxbridge deploy to give the VMs outside access (if it even does). An OVN AIO would, however, have working dhcp/metadata19:19
jamesdentonmgariepy spinning up an AIO now and will get that config to you once i have it19:28
mgariepygreat :D19:29
mgariepyhttps://paste.ubuntu.com/p/X8GrBXWSb3/19:30
jamesdentonhmm ok one sec19:33
jamesdentonYou should be able to get away with -- container_interface: "eth11" -- even though it won't be used. i will need to find the machine i updated those docs from to see what was set.19:36
jamesdentonand you don't need to define both br-privatenet and br-publicnet, that was just an example of two distinct provider bridges19:37
mgariepyjust added the interface i'll see where it leads me.19:38

jamesdentonmgariepy can you check your inventory and see if you have any hosts under neutron_ovn_controller? and any hosts under neutron_linuxbridge_agent?20:14
jamesdentonspatel very nice!20:14
mgariepyhmm none under neither of them20:15
jamesdentonyeah i'm noticing nothing for neutron_ovn_controller, but i do have aio1 showing up under linuxbridge but don't know why (it shouldn't)20:17
jamesdentonaio1 should be listed as a member of neutron_ovn_controller20:17

jamesdentonthen the inventory should have aio1 as a child of neutron_ovn_controller20:32
jamesdentonor a host, rather20:32
jamesdentonAlso, I'm thinking https://github.com/openstack/openstack-ansible/blob/master/osa_toolkit/generate.py#L739 could be changed to p_net.get('container_interface')20:35
mgariepyhmm changing the nova.yml in env.d doesn't fix my inventory.20:44
