andymccryou mean the upgrade jobs are failing on glance, or you mean there are api-test failures? (i noticed those)11:15
odyssey4methe api test fails are expected, because there's only one glance container11:15
odyssey4mebut a minor upgrade implementation fails11:15
andymccrok makes sense11:16
odyssey4meone part of the failure is due to us (in RPC) using a funny version tag which does not comply with semver, so the version_compare fails11:16
odyssey4meanother part of the failure is that the test for the major version will never ever detect a major version11:16
odyssey4mebecause it's comparing the venv tag against the same venv tag11:16
odyssey4mesee in https://github.com/openstack/openstack-ansible-os_glance/blob/master/tasks/glance_db_setup.yml#L29 'existing' is set to the value of glance_venv_tag11:17

andymccrthe issue itself in your log looks like it cant connect to your keystone service to setup the glance user. that could be because the keystone service isnt up, the haproxy loadbalancer isnt setup properly, there is on network access to that location, or some other connectivity reason16:43

LiterateHawkTo allow OS to use the same network as the management interface for instances, is it as simple as adding another item in provider_networks with type 'flat' attached to the same br-mgmt network? Or do I need to add a 2nd bridge?20:05
jamesdentonfirebat What you're experiencing may be a bug. The group_var glance_container_bind_mounts may not exist20:05
firebatIs there a way I can find out what that should be if it should exist? I can put it in myself20:06
firebatI was having issues with the tag I was on20:06
jamesdentonDo you have a directory named /opt/openstack-ansible/group_vars ?20:07

DimGRjamesdenton last question , if you create 5 instances at once and they build fine then the next day you create 5 instances at once and they fail with logs saying failed to bind port  , where would you look at for a possible fix ? i think i have fixed that but i want to make sure its fixed20:10
jamesdentonLiterateHawk Things get real tricky when you try to collapse everything on the same interface. You can use a single interface, but because of all of the bridges involved you'd need to tag many of those networks, including the actual ssh/mgmt interface on the host if you want to have a 'flat' network for neutron to use20:11
jamesdentonport binding failures are often the result of an agent being able to perform the task you've asked it, so invalid network type or interface or whatever20:12
*** dxiri has quit IRC20:12
DimGRi think i had also seen logs like  invalid block device mapping  jamesdenton but i think i have fixed that20:15
LiterateHawkjamesdenton, Thanks for the pointer. Perhaps I'm doing the wrong thing. The machines have two nics, but the 2nd was brought up just for this PoC and is on a separate VLAN. I've got the 2nd nic configured for VXLAN tunneling, and now I'm trying to sort out how to attach the existing network on eth0 as well20:16
*** cshen_ has quit IRC20:16
skapeHi all ! while running "openstack-ansible setup-infrastructure.yml"   I have an error in the task [Prepare group of master repo servers]  but the thing that bothes me is that the error is in the localhost in the deploy machine20:16
LiterateHawkUnfortunately, this docs reshuffling on openstack.org is making a lot of promising links be dead :(20:16
jamesdentonLiterateHawk In our case, we have two NICs as well. eth0 (untagged) is management, eth0.100 is in br-mgmt bridge, and eth0.101 might be in br-storage. eth1.200 is in br-vxlan for tunnels, and eth1 (untagged) is in br-vlan, which allows Neutron to handle the actual vlan tagging20:17
LiterateHawkjamesdenton, Gotcha. I was trying to dodge adding additional VLANs the the existing network, because of the hassle of change-management (especially since I don't 100% know what changes I want them to do).20:19
LiterateHawkIs there a huge difference in OSA support between ovs and linuxbridge networking?20:20
DimGRi can verify LiterateHawk  that networking is the most hard thing to understand in openstack let alone configuring it20:20
jamesdentoni hear ya. If you can work to have a dedicated set of vlans available for this PoC (say 10), and have them trunked to both eth0 and eth1 in this case, it gives you flexibility to move them around as needed and reserve some for neutron20:20
LiterateHawkLet me see if I can get at least that. The dumb thing is that this PoC is on a rack that's EOL'd with nothing production on it, but I still have to jump through the same hoops to get any changes :/20:21
jamesdentonotherwisei feel your pain20:21
LiterateHawkDimGR, it absolutely is, and I'm not even looking to do anything real special20:22
DimGRit took me 4 months to undersand flat networking20:22
jamesdentonDoes this help at all?20:22
jamesdentonhttps://docs.openstack.org/project-deploy-guide/openstack-ansible/newton/app-networking.html#network-appendix20:22
LiterateHawkI've read through that a couple of times. I think I get it conceptually, it's just the concepts that trip me up20:23
LiterateHawks/concepts/details/20:23
jamesdentonDo you have a subscription to O'Reilly or anything like that?20:24
DimGRwhat book you recomment jamesdenton20:24
LiterateHawkYeah, I work for a university, so we have literally every subscription20:25
jamesdentonWell, at the sake of self-promotion, I recommend Learning OpenStack Networking (Second Edition), or at least Essentials20:25
DimGRok LiterateHawk  you can email me the book he will recommend :)20:25

LiterateHawkjamesdenton, I'll grab them. Thanks for the tips!20:26
jamesdentonsure thing. i will also try and work on a post to break down the provider_network section of the openstack_user_config.20:27
skapethanks for the tips on the books I hope it end the guess work around flat network20:28
*** armaan has joined #openstack-ansible20:28
jamesdentonit's really geared towards vanilla Neutron. The OSA bits manipulate those config files accordingly. So yes, it helps understand the foundation20:29
skapebut back to my question it seams that repo_servers is empty20:31
skapehttp://paste.openstack.org/show/615209/20:31
skapewhy is the error on the localhost on the deploy machine20:31
jamesdentoni'm not sure 16.10 is a supported platform, yet20:34
LiterateHawkYeah, you have to back up to 16.04 (learned that lesson the hard way)20:34
skapehum also on the deploy machine it must be 16.420:35
skapehum what exactly is been installed on the deploy machine ?20:36
jamesdentonyes, it looks like it does20:38
jamesdentoni'm not sure what would be installed on a pure deploy host, but it may be part of the inventory anyway and caught up in process20:39
skapeok in theory I can shutdown the deploy host after the installation ?20:41
DimGRis there a tutorial on how to shutdown your cluster?20:41
skapethank god the kickstart files work for 16.10 also work for 16.420:41
jamesdentonskape I suppose so, but you'll want it to make configuration changes along the way if needed20:42
jamesdentonideally you would modify user_variables.yml and run a subset of playbooks and tags to manage the openstack infra20:42
jamesdentonDimGR May want to check the appendix in the online guide for bootstrapping a galera cluster on startup20:43
skapejamesdenton thx20:43
jamesdentonbut shutdown should be pretty straightforward in my experience. save the DBs for last i guess20:43
DimGRso there is no particular order on shutting them down or rebooting a host but if you shutdown all hosts or reboot one of them, you need to check galera20:44
DimGRi see20:44
jamesdentonwell the infra nodes are special in that case. rolling reboots are recommended20:44
jamesdentonand startup may have a sequence20:44
DimGRthe sequence i am looking to find20:46
DimGRjust to be safe when time comes20:46
*** smatzek has quit IRC20:49
jamesdentonSorry DimGR - I don't have anything like that available. You may want to dig up some standard openstack best practices, as they would apply here as well20:52
skapeI know that a ceph cluster has an shutdown order , so maybe swift has it also to avoid data inconstancy20:57

jamesdentonasura make sure both vip addresses are configured on an interface, br-mgmt would prob be OK for both. You can curl the url in the error to ensure connectivity at that point. the repo containers must be up and services accessible within the container21:22
