cloudnullif we're going to implement such a solution15:15
odyssey4mecloudnull it would be easy enough to grab all the apt sources, but that may mean we end up getting a lot of unnecessary cruft... and I'm wondering what the use case would be where it would be useful or necessary (bearing in mind that there is already a facility for a user to provide their own list of files to copy)15:15

odyssey4meI've been thinking about the changes in precedence. Does it make sense for the stuff we want people to override to sit in defaults, then the vars files should have stuff that should not be overridden usually... if you do, you do so at your own risk. Effectively the defaults will be an interface whereas the vars will be internal vars which won't have deprecation cycles. Thoughts?15:37

*** mikelk has quit IRC15:37
michaelguginoodyssey4me: I have thought about this before15:37
*** sacharya has quit IRC15:38
michaelguginoI don't think we need/should do that.  anything in user_*.yml will override the values in the var files, which is more or less the same method we tell users to override things in defaults anyway.15:38
palendaeodyssey4me: Seems sensible to me15:38
smatzekklyek3h:  Can you look at odyssey4me 's patchset above for the ppc implications?  You've dealt with that area more than me.15:38
*** TxGirlGeek has quit IRC15:39
odyssey4memichaelgugino sure, that is true - but ideally I think we should move away from relying on CLI-based overrides if possible and should move towards overrides being implemented in the inventory...15:39

odyssey4mecloudnull it may make sense for us to have vars that are common, then vars that are common for a distribution, then vars for a specific version... there's a lot of var duplication between ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 and some between ubuntu and redhat15:42
michaelguginoodyssey4me: we can always go the dictionary approach15:43
cloudnullthere is a lot of duplication, however thats kinda the ansible way.15:43
odyssey4meI'm not sure if vars files can include other vars files? that can help reduce duplication?15:43
michaelguginono, I don't think that will help15:43

odyssey4meugh, no - I don't want to perpetuate mixed vars precedence15:46
odyssey4meit's bad enough in ansible 1.9 that the precedence is poorly documented15:46
*** stelouie has quit IRC15:47
michaelguginoI honestly don't feel the precedence docs are that bad.  They might be a little counter-intuitive at first, but they mean what they say.15:49
michaelguginoHere's what I was thinking with my original patchset for rsyslog_server:  https://gist.github.com/anonymous/9e356eac3141b9ec30de6f8e5b96faae15:49
odyssey4memichaelgugino for Ansible 2 it's very clear, but for 1.9 it's horrible15:50
odyssey4memichaelgugino as it stands https://gist.github.com/anonymous/9e356eac3141b9ec30de6f8e5b96faae gives us nothing that the current vars implementation doesn't already give us15:51
michaelguginoodyssey4me: that's not correct.  Those values would be in default.yml and can be overridden15:51
*** galstrom is now known as galstrom_zzz15:52
odyssey4memichaelgugino except that the contents would have to be overridden as an entire dict which is horrible15:52
michaelguginoodyssey4me: no, you'll see the last line is the 'top-level' var15:52
*** galstrom_zzz is now known as galstrom15:52
michaelguginothat is what would be used in the actual tasks, and can be overridden one by one.15:52
odyssey4meah I see - but we can do that with the vars too... the last line lives in defaults and the rest sit in vars15:53
odyssey4meit doesn't really change much15:54
michaelguginoodyssey4me: I don't think that's how that would work15:54
michaelguginothe role knows nothing about those vars until they're included.15:54
michaelguginoIn any case, I'm happy with how we currently do things, and I don't mind providing variables on the command line.  I actually dislike putting variables in inventory, that feels unnatural with ansible.15:57

odyssey4memkrish004c can you share your openstack_user_config & user_variables file in pastebin?19:23
michaelguginosmatzek: awesome!19:23
odyssey4mesmatzek yeah, as far as I know there won't be a UCA for Xenial until the Newton release - Xenial's OpenStack is Mitaka already19:24
smatzekodyssey4me:  yep, that's my understanding as well, but I've put the variables in place so all a deployer would have to do after the Netwon release is set the variable to Newton to install from UCA on 16.04 with that, no playbook changes necessary.19:25
openstackgerritSamuel Matzek proposed openstack/openstack-ansible: Refactor ceph_client for multi-OS and ceph  https://review.openstack.org/31269219:26
odyssey4mesmatzek yeah, we would change the default before we release ;)19:26

smatzekodyssey4me:  Should I just do that now in the 16.04 var file in the review above?  Set UCA default release to newton?19:27
odyssey4mesmatzek maybe add a TODO to revisit that at newton-1 - I've just been informed that they should be publishing something around then19:28
odyssey4mebut for now we'll have to use distro as the default for Xenial - without that any gate job for it will fail19:28

odyssey4memkrish004c do you intentionally have an affinity of 2 for horizon on the one host?19:40
odyssey4memkrish004c for galera/rabbit you need an odd number of containers for clustering - for any other containers 3 is not necessary19:41
mkrish004c@odyssey4me, i am setting up my env in 3 host, 2 controller and 1 compute with HA. so tried with HA for all.19:45
