mrdaHey openstack-ansible, just wondering... Can anyone tell me how the galera_root_password gets set when galera is installed?  I can see how galera_root_password is used to create tables, but I can't see how it is set when galera is installed from apt.  Any one point me in the right direction?03:04

cooljmrda: the galera-install playbook uses the galera_server role, which uses galera_root_password03:33

mrdathanks coolj, I didn't realise the galera install was in a different repo.  Thanks!03:34

sashabigI am new to openstack and testing your aio distro05:05
sashabigcoming from rdo I am confused with networking you seems to use br-vlan, is it the same as br-ex ?05:06
sashabigin rdo i am simply mapping br-ex which actually bridge of external physcial interface in neutron to a flat network and then assing its network as externa;05:07
sashabigexternal05:07
sashabigin this project would be br-vlan then ?05:07
mcardensashabig: I am also new to openstack and have no solid insights for you, but I note that the openstack-ansible docs describe a 'Reference Implementation' for a network architecture:  http://docs.openstack.org/developer/openstack-ansible/install-guide/targethosts-networkrefarch.html05:09

sashabigthank you and I looked there but it is a bit different in aio05:11
sashabigbr-vlan has ip assigned to it05:12
mcardenUh, yeah, I guess it is. I'm still learning aio myself. I wrote about it here:  http://www.michaelcarden.net05:12
sashabigI wonder if there is an example of few nodes connecting to real network on liberty05:12
sashabigso in your case you connected to virtual machine on the host?05:13
sashabigwere you able ssh into it remotely ?05:14
mcardenI just ran up the whole thing inside a cloud VM which I can access via ssh.05:14
sashabigI see05:14
mcardenThen I can ssh into the 32 containers05:14
sashabigI know this part works, I even connected it to ceph cluster via cinder / glance back end05:15
*** apuimedo_ has joined #openstack-ansible05:15
sashabigbut I am looking for guidance on how to make it x node system05:15
sashabigat least run it on real network05:15
sashabigso if anyone has a > = 2 node lab example, I would reall appreciate any guidance05:17
mcardensashabig: There is no doubt that someone in this channel will be able to assist you, it's just that many of them are in sleeping time zones right now.05:19

mhaydendoes neutron refer to those interfaces as something else?14:51
Sam-I-Amhow are you trying to add it?14:54
Sam-I-Am--provider:physical_network is usually a mapping name, not an actual interface14:54
Sam-I-Amunless you mapped eth12:eth1214:54

Sam-I-Amsashabig1: so this goes back to a restriction of 1:1 mappings for interfaces19:58
Sam-I-Amin other words, you can't do netA:eth11,netB:eth1119:58
sashabig1Sam-I-Am: yes19:59
Sam-I-Amhowever, in the ml2 config, you can have flat and vlan networks use the same name19:59
Sam-I-Amproblem is we dont do that in o-a20:00
Sam-I-Amthe names are 'flat' and 'vlan'20:00
Sam-I-Ami suppose you could use something more generic like "public" and map both flat/vlan networks to the same interface20:00
sashabig1Sam-I-Am: I see on the compute host you have flat:eth12, vlan:br-vlan but eth12 is the part of br-vlan20:01
*** jthorne has quit IRC20:01
sashabig1how can you map network to eth12 then ?20:02
Sam-I-Amthere's no eth12 on your host... thats what 'host_bind_override" does20:03
Sam-I-Amyou can change what neutron maps to on the host, but still keep it eth12 in containers20:03
Sam-I-Amso, to make it work this way (with different names for flat and vlan networks), you need to create a veth pair with one end in br-vlan and the other end in eth1220:03
Sam-I-Am(or whatever you want to call eth12)20:03
*** hybridpollo has joined #openstack-ansible20:04

Sam-I-Amsashabig1: that probably plugs into br-vlan ... and thats something you do when you configure the host20:05

sashabig1Sam-I-Am: I still need to keep this br-vlan-veth peer eth12 construct for compatibility with containers and add em1 ?  Or em1 replaces it completely ?20:09
sashabig1as a single bridge port of br-vlan ?20:09
Sam-I-Amif em1 is the interface on which flat/vlan networks connect to your physical network, then br-vlan needs a port on em1, and the other end of the veth pair for the flat network (if you even need flat networks) also needs to plug into br-vlan20:09
Sam-I-Ama flat network is just an untagged vlan20:10
*** metral is now known as metral_zzz20:10
Sam-I-Amso if you only need vlan tagged networks, then you can eliminate that stuff20:10
Sam-I-Amyou only get 1 flat network per physical interface20:10
sashabig1Sam-I-Am: that I understand20:11
*** apuimedo_ has quit IRC20:12
sashabig1what throws me off in neutron config I see this mapping flat:eth12,vlan:br-vlan, If I use physical network and plug em1 into br-vlan on the host, should I say flat:em1,vlan:br-vlan ?  em1 is part of br-vlan already ...20:14
*** apuimedo has quit IRC20:16

Sam-I-Amin your user config file, change host_bind_override to em1, re-run neutron plays20:19
sashabig1I tried that but aio_interfaces is not affected by this , only neutron ml2 config is20:20
sashabig1em1 doesn't become a port on br-vlan on the physical host20:21
sashabig1do I have to change aio-interfaces manually ?20:22
Sam-I-Amis this an aio?20:22

Sam-I-Ambecause the veth pair is already done for you20:28
sashabig1so basically all this veth pairs needed to plug containers, even if containers scattered across the hosts ?20:29
Sam-I-Amif you're running multinode, things get a bit different20:29
sashabig1hmm, that is what I am trying to get to20:30
sashabig1how different?20:30
*** apuimedo_ has joined #openstack-ansible20:32
Sam-I-Amwell, you can simply set 'host_bind_override' as em1 when you deploy... as long as em1 does the same thing on all hosts20:32
Sam-I-Ambr-vxlan also needs an interface20:33
Sam-I-Amunless you dont want vxlan-type networks20:33
sashabig1But in this case em1 should be a port  on  br-vlan and em2 for example a port of br-vxlan20:34
sashabig1correct?20:34
Sam-I-Amfor an aio, vxlans are completely internal and therefore do not require a phys interface plugged into br-vxlan20:35
Sam-I-Ammultinode, you need to plug something in20:35
sashabig1got it20:36
sashabig1can veth interfaces then still stay in neutron configs since they are still parts of the bridge ?20:39
*** galstrom is now known as galstrom_zzz20:39
