fungihttps://pycon.blogspot.com/2024/02/support-pyladies-auction-with-a-donation.html is a neat approach to fundraising attached to organized events. brainstorming... an openinfra diversity charity auction and donate the proceeds to a diversity-related public charity (ideally one local to the event). sounds more interesting than the usual mixers and parties we end up with attached to our15:57
fungievents15:57
fungia lot of cities have local stem charities, for example15:57
spotz[m]We've had the diversity lunches which when done right were good mixers, but we haven't had a social event since the WoO days and even then I don't think the last few summits before I merged the groups had any. But I do like the idea of a fundraiser for STEM, from RDO there was a speaker going to talk to a STEM group and I sent them stickers and SWAG as prices16:57
fungiyeah, i do think the diversity wg has had some variety, i meant more like the sponsored summit parties and 10k core club gatherings and foundation member events were basically just "here's the address, open bar, have fun" so not that compelling of a story17:49
spotz[m]Marketing hat on some of those type things are important for optics. That said it doesn’t mean we can’t also raise money:)18:19
fungiexactly, more that i think it's an opportunity to raise money for good causes. our foundation can really only gain funding through memberships and sponsorships, because it's not organized as a public charity, but we can still leverage those gatherings to help funnel donations to aligned charities18:23
fungifor the open source foundation i'm on the board of, which *is* a public charity, i'd take a different approach of course18:24
